The ultimate “Jeff Wins” video! Very smart of you to film your rant when you are that frustrated, but them have the ability to say, this is not a good idea to post this, so I will just show it and play different audio. Covers you and emphasizes your frustration by showing just how much of it you couldn’t post. Well done Jeff! 👍
Ya know Jeff I watch your channel cause I learn all kinds of stuff, just never though I would be needing to read lips to get the full benefit of your wisdom. 😅 JEFF WINS!
I have that press on my service truck with all the plates and pushers. I also carry the proper CAT 100R12 and 100R15 hose for it. Not a fun job but sometimes you don't have a choice.
After watching this, I was stunned and confused... Then I suddenly realised... Hey.. I'm now a highly skilled, push pull, scraper operator. .... Thanks Jeff... Gibbsey wins.
Best monolog, I think you ever did. I learned how to operate a scaper and I am ready to go to work anytime you want me to. Thanks for teaching me the basics. Jeff you are a winner!
Jeff, over my career I made hundreds of hoses with that system. Give me the part number of the hose assembly and the book and I can make a hose to fit perfectly every time. Cat had a great system. But I hated it. We had a huge store of fittings to work with, when a hose blew we would just cut the ends off and on a slow day someone would take them apart, resize and put them in the proper bins. It took forever, well it seemed like forever. Then one day our local Cat dealer made us a deal, they would take the old fittings apart and resize for "x" number of dollars, can't remember the figure but cheap. Made life much easier. But I will take a modern hose press with throw away fittings any day, just for the time involved. Maybe for your rant you should have used the "Shake Hands With Danger" sound track😜😜
A job well done is a job done by Jeff. Jeff Wins! That is the way everything is going. Nobody gives a hoot! They'll pick a hose from the shelf but make one.... no way. That is sad. There still are a lot of older folk, that will do what is required, but not so much in the younger generations. Great rant, one of the best. I learned how to work as a team scaping. Never too old to learn, as they say. Thanks.
I love this video, Jeff! I own a small auto repair shop and I deal with this kind of stupidity, laziness, I don't care attitude. Most of it I see in the younger generation. I just want to punch something or someone, but instead end up talking to myself!
I watch another youtuber who rants against vendors and clients and it's so much better the way you did it here. We all can understand your frustration...but it's best not to burn bridges. Sure had me laughing all the way through the rant.
There’s few parts guys and techs that actually get it today. Fewer guys can improvise because they’ve never spent a day running or working on tractors, trucks even cars. I worked with some of the old school folks that I’d call geniuses, especially compared to what’s out there now. Very few can even look parts up in a parts book any more. If it’s not on the computer, most can’t help you. The old guys died, retired or got tired of the bullshit. Manufacturers just want to sell replacement parts at 300% markup. Count your blessings that guy didn’t try to do it. It probably would’ve failed and you would’ve really been pissed off.
I did many of them, way back when, on the back of a shop truck with a vise, 36inch crescent wrench, 12lb hammer, and a hacksaw. Standing in ankle deep mud while it’s 40 degrees and pissing rain. Memories of the good old days 😂
Hi Jeff . I'm not sure what the blokes problem was . That looks like a standard hose repair to me . From memory we used to cut the end of with about 50mm/2 inches of hose . press of the outer collar . then press on the cut off hose ,that used spread the claws and the hose came simply away from the fitting . ( I first used to pry the claws out with a screw driver untill I was shown this method )
Not only lost all that time but got jerked off until it snowed You out of the tougher than boiled owl dung cab. That would be enough to gripe anyone's hind end. Thanks Jeff. Best Wishes to everyone at Anderson Construction. Bless and Thank You to all Our Veterans.
I feel you brother. 9 times out of 10 when you pay for someone else to do a job it just seems to lead to frustration and dissapointment. Its rare to find people that actually have pride in their work. Atleast the gave up before they even started. My luck they would say they could do it and charge a pretty penny then it would blow up the first time i used the machine and dump a shit ton of hyd oil all over the place.
Jeff. Arguably one of your best ever short videos 😂. I used to use exactly the same fittings for a high pressure water system in a processing plant. Those are called reusable fittings for a reason. They were recommended to me by a hydraulic shop. Had to go to the Cat House in Mount Vernon Wa. No one ever broke a sweat there either. Your machine looks just like theirs. I watched them a few times and know I could do it….. faster. They lasted twice as long as crimped fittings and cost three times as much but I greatly reduced down time.
I feel your pain....I have a "factory rep" that I hate to deal with and it happens they aren't even located in the state I'm in....but I'm in their "territory" I needed 55 gallon drum of a specialty fluid....and I contacted the factory to see if I could buy direct but noooo...they had to protect their rep. I ordered the fluid and prepaid based on their quote....fob my dock. The shipment showed up 11 single shipments in 5 gallon pails. The freight was more than the product... It was a total cluster and the twenty something at the rep wanted to make it all my fault..... Keep winning
Great video 👍 We now know how to use a scraper 😁, the reason people don't give a frigg is companies don't train and look after people but care only to overpay manager's etc.
Your not the only one this happens too Jeff. The harmonic balancer came apart on brother's combine in the middle of corn harvest. He went to the closest CASE IH dealer to order one. They charged him $160 for two day shipping. When it came in the balancer looked completely different from the old one. My brother was concerned it was the wrong one, so the parts guy got on the phone and was talking to someone on the other end of the phone about what there's looked like. Turns out he was talking to one of their other stores that had one in stock. The store he was talking to was about the same distance from my brother's farm in the opposite direction. My brother was pissed. He said you meant to tell me you charged me $160 for freight and you had one in stock at another store. The parts guy said you didn't tell me to check other stores. In the end they dropped the freight charges but it happens all over.
Never forget to take plug out when building new hose. had this happen once had several hoses made at local dealer and one had the plug left in the hose between pump and valve started machine and it stalled from pump loading when plug stopped at fiting. Took some tim to figure this on out LOL
Jeff, I'm familiar with crimp fittings on Gates, Parker, Eaton hoses but never seen the hose press like you guys have. When you have some time can you do a CAT hose press 101 video. Like how does it work and the pros and cons over other methods of crimping hose ends onto hose. Understand if your busy. This can wait until winter when you have more time.
That's what this video was supposed to be but I needed to get going and I didn't know what I was doing so it didn't happen but yes that's something I need to show
God it's been ages since I used one of those presses. It's not that hard! But I would have to scratch my head a time or two to remember 30 years is a long damn time!
I would have liked to hear what you had to say in your rant. I’ve come to the same conclusion as you, do everything myself. After getting stuffed around for over a week and they still didn’t get the correct parts.
Hey Jeff. Please do a detailed video using that hose press one of these days. I'm thinking that is a 7S1100 model? I've been scouring the Internet looking for one with tooling. Got a remote gold mine in the Yukon. And I'm sick and tired of driving 8hrs to get hoses built. Especially since they won't reuse my reusable fittings...
You have to understand the old days and old ways are for the most part done. Us ol' farts that cared about customers first and foremost are either retiring or dying off. New kids taking our place seriously don't give a poop.
What's that white stuff, and it looks cold well don't forget what I told you about them shower curtains. Easy to fold up and store then put it over the radiator to block off the air flow. You can get all kind of patterns on shower curtains......Roll Tide or even Dale Earnhardt.....
So I actually got the condensed version the other day 🤣🤣 I reckon I would've like to hear a bleeped version. I hope asked God for forgiveness after all that Cussing. Mum would like to hear potty mouth. 😂😅. Take care Uncle.
I blew a hose on my scraper with the CAT push fittings but the dealer doesn't have anybody in the hose shop that knows how to use them. They don't have the crimp fittings in stock so I have to wait another day for them to arrive. Then they make the hose..... but guess what...... they have it clocked wrong. Now we have to wait an additional day for more fittings to arrive so they can make it again. The second time the clocking is wrong again. I can't use it and we need fittings again. The third time I insisted on following them to the hose shop to "approve" the clocking before they crimp it. Finally, I got a hose....... I sure do prefer the push fittings for so many reasons, non of which the dealer can understand. I lost a whole week because the "hose professionals" don't know how to use a push press.
Two reasons they don’t want to repair that stuff, #1, if it leaks they have to repair it again until it doesn’t leak but they only get paid for the first repair. #2, the dealer wants to sell parts at exorbitant marked up prices in order to make profit. See #1, no liability for dealer if new part fails. They just order another one and screw the customer with downtime.
Here in the UK, hose companies will not mess with those reusable hose fittings and won't re-end hoses full stop. Too many liability issues this day and age - you can thank blame and sue culture for that, another great USA export to the world sadly.
Hey there Mr PayDirt good to see Jeff wins once again, and let me guess, it was easier to play the Cat infomercial while you were giving your critiques on your hose supplier, than to beep out every swear word. Cheers from down under.
My CAT dealer would rather throw the old style couplers in the scrap and give me a new style for free than take the time to mess with them. Over the years I had one coupler from a 627 that the press couldn’t get apart from rust.
Jeff , this hurt my insides, my old man does the same rant then turns the music up a little louder so it overpowers his rants so oeople dont think hes crazy driving down the road😂
Jeff excellent rant. And you wont be in you tubes dog house over it. Unfortunately lazy people are also required to make the world go around. Take care and see you on the next one.
I stumbled onto a real cat press the big one they got at tat and the way you get the actual fitting off once you get the collar off you gotta spread them ears a little bit, the teeth to grab the hose and then my press has a collar that goes around and then it pulls the hose back out You might be missing a peace, and the big thing is the indexing I take, lay the hoses out, side-by-side old, one and new one and I mark a silver line on the hose to the coupling number one and two, and then redo the hose because if you get the indexing wrong ha ha you never get it on specially that hose XT five but if I’m not mistaken, you gotta use cat hose on them you can’t use gates or any other manufacturer
Oh Jeff that’s such a tough day and an open cab people don’t know cold till you come home in a hot shower in the water coming off of you is ice cold we’re dying breed buddy I know people won’t run a machine without a cab
