I'll try to make up a synopsis: A few years have passed since last time, and Riley is now getting ready to head to college. All the while, the emotions, Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, Anger, Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui, are all working together to ensure that they keep Riley in tip top shape for the days to come. On her 18th birthday, Riley has a party with friends new and old, where she's having the time of her life. But then, an unexpected development happens: one of the guys at the party, who was one Riley's closest friends and a was longtime crush of hers, has confessed his love for her and wants to be her boyfriend. Riley is shocked, and she doesn't know what to think, and with Embarrassment at the wheel, she jumbles her words and hurriedly runs off. That night, Riley starts having strange dreams as the alarms sound at Headquarters. Through the glass, a new black emotion suddenly appears: Depression. Depression shows himself to be hostile to the other emotions and hijacks the console, causing Riley to feel a sort of sadness she had never felt before. When the other emotions try to stop him, he manages to suck the life and colour out of them. In the ensuing chaos, Depression disables the belief system and has the emotions captured and locked away. However, Joy and Sadness manage to escape by sending themselves to long-term memory. As such, Joy and Sadness make the long journey back to Headquarters, getting lost once more. Meanwhile, Depression starts to wreak havoc on Riley's social life and mental health as she starts her freshman year at college, and the stress would cause Riley to break down crying during class. During this chaos, the captured emotions find a note telling them that two emotions are to join the others at Headquarters, and they send the note to long-term to warn Joy. Joy receives the message and realizes that there's a second emotion lurking somewhere, and she and Sadness set of to find it. Out in the real world, Riley's crush approaches her, wanting confirmation about his confession, but once again, Riley jumbles her words and flees to the girl's bathroom, where she once again breaks down crying, lamenting on how she got like this. Down in long-term, Joy and Sadness finally find the second emotion, a magenta-coloured emotion called Love, floating on a cloud. However, Love's cloud soon disappears due to the ongoing storm in her mind, causing her to fall into the memory dump. Knowing how important Love will be to Riley, Joy and Sadness jump down after her, and they too end up in the memory dump. In Headquarters, the captured emotions are getting restless as Depression enacts his master plan for Riley, which would make what Anxiety did a few years earlier seem like child's play. Riley ends up distancing herself from her friends and her hobbies and makes some very bad choices, resulting in the destruction of the personality islands and causing chaos amongst the mind workers. Joy, Sadness, and Love manage to escape the memory dump, only to find the mind workers being escorted to fortified shelters. When Joy asks them what is going on, they sadly tell them that Riley is about to do something so destructive to herself that it will destroy everything, and that their days will soon be numbered. The three emotions soon realize what this means, and they now know that they don't have much time left, as they peer up to Headquarters and see Depression's silhouette. The three emotions scramble to come up with a plan, and Joy suddenly remembers that the mind workers had restored Bing Bong's rocket, and in no time at all, they manage to launch themselves back to Headquarters. Outside, we see Riley about to make her final move, and Depression is about to hit the final button. But then, Joy, Sadness, and Love suddenly break into Headquarters, and a scuffle ensues for control of the console, during which Sadness breaks off to free the other emotions, who then join in the fight. After a long struggle, Joy, Love, and the other emotions come out on top, and Depression fades into dust. Using their combined inputs, the emotions convince Riley to seek help. Some time later, Riley is starting to recover, and the emotions begin repairing the damage that Depression has done. She has managed to develop a support network and has regained her old hobbies and beliefs as well as making some new ones. One day, Riley's crush pulls Riley aside, where he interrogates her on why she kept dodging his confession. Riley soon tells him all that happened during her bout with Depression, and her crush, showing sympathy for her, vows to support her no matter what, resulting in a warm and sensual hug. Riley's crush then confesses and offers his love for Riley once more, and this time, with Love at the wheel, she accepts his confession, and with that, Riley has her first kiss. We then end off with a shot of Riley and her crush turned boyfriend walking hand in hand as they walk to their first class.

you're the first one to make a theory story of what Inside Out 3 might be like. Most say the 'thrown out' emotion: Gloom might make an appearance in the continuation of the story. If the next movie plays out the depression that young adults face when graduating from their last childhood year (12th grade), this might be a prediction. somebody else predicted Inside Out 2 quite well, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was partially canon.
