I shot this. Turned out pretty good huh for a cheap camera? Glad you all are still enjoying this 20 years later. I sat on a small shelf at the side of the room so I could shoot above everyone's head. Cat Power lives!
Roger, if you still have this footage, is there any chance you would upload it in slightly higher quality? I’ve loved this video for a decade, would be great to see it a little more clearly
This video truly captures the essence of chan marshall. The emotion in her voice is so pure and effortless, and thats why it's amazing. As much as chan has evolved until now, i am still a huge fan of hers, and it is understandable that as her life changes, so will her music.
This was the first song I ever heard from Chan. It was played in a movie called 'Picture Claire' with Juliette Lewis and Gina Gershon (great movie by the way) and I fell head over heels in love with that song. Anyways, found the name of the song, name of the artist and became a die hard fan of that woman ever since. That was over 8 years ago, and to this day Metal Heart still remains my absolute favorite song she ever did...nothing compares. I love you Chan. You are a wonder to behold.
i think that the emotion you're hearing in her voice is pain. and pain isn't always the only form of artistic emotion. when i think of chan marshall, i think of her as my friend (in an indirect way) and to see her in pain makes me kind of sad, especially when people are saying "yeah i liked her better when her life was a wreck". maybe her music is different now, but it's still chan marshall's (well, you know, to an extent) and it's beautiful. and i'm very happy for her and her career.
Anybody able to name the guitarist ? Quite a few vids with Chan, Jim White and this guy......I feel he needs some recognition as well......pure magic recording.....thank you
I love how she's expanded her sound, (and also found happiness!) in her recent work with The Greatest and Jukebox, but my very favorite Cat Power is still this one; on tour playing small clubs with her band, playing songs off Moon Pix. It's probably selfish of me to find her most heartbreaking and haunting work my favorite, but I think it's with out a doubt when her work was the most powerfully intimate. Thank you for uploading this.
Man she's not only grown 10 years but been through some rehab and therapy since and I can just admire the way she came out there! So well, let her make some money and enjoy her success now. *loves Moon Pix AND The Greatest (and Jukebox as well)*
This song on moonpix and the one on jukebox are completely different. Their both on my playlist back to back, and I think I love them the same. But seriously, this is my fave song along with Ice Water
@@FungusMossGnosis Is this the show where she ended by saying "Knock Knock" before running off stage? I remember that happening there about this time. But maybe she was all acoustic back then. A nod to your clever name, FungusAmongUs ;-)
Fantastic - I love her voice, I came across it for the first time when I was watching Juno - and I heard her version of Sea Of Love. I didn't know who she was but I was literally blown away and had to find out who sang that song. After that I searched everywhere for stuff by her. Never looked back! =)
for me, she is like a modern saint. i like both studio versions of the song, but this cannot be compared with anything, amazing, really amazing version
i love her music.. its interesting how her appearance has changed i wonder how'd she look with her attire now back then in her glowing youthfulness.. anyways i thought she's was incredibly beautiful in music and in her looks hehe
holy shit! i was only ten when this happened! i don't listen much to cat power, but i sure wish i knew about her back then. this is flipping amazing...truly a magical moment! this is your footage?
@okremington Thanks for saying this. Many people go off into the "deep end" and DO NOT come back...if you know what I'm saying. So, I'm just glad that she's able to give us more music. People, fans especially, just aren't thankful sometimes and I swear I don't understand why! You honestly want someone to suffer in order for you're very own listening pleasure??? Grow up.
I imagine the rest of one's life would be a let down after being a member of this audience. Or imagine someone who missed this show for whatever reason and comes back and sees this video. ...Yeah. That'd suck.
can someone tell me is that andrew stockdale of wolfmother playing the other guitar? they look exactly the same heheheh... and they both play gibson sg
...hum...no man.. the guitar she uses most of the time is the danelectro-U1 (1956-1958), a vintage guitar, the shape is like a les paul, It was re-issued in the 90s and 04. This guitar is like a strat it was first introduced in the 60s, Model 4011 , it has a new version these days called dano 63...
