Ahhhhhh! There's a mosquito on your right hand My Dude! Nevermind you just got him. LOL Thanks for the info I've got to find where water is getting into the oil on mine.
Do you happen to know exactly what the oil in the pump's crankcase is lubricating? I just had a very weird thing happen to my high pressure Comet pump. It began leaking on the opposite side of the pump's shaft side through a clear site glass with a large o-ring. This is not the much smaller site glass you normally look at to eyeball the pump oil. This side is on the back of my machine and not too easy to see. The shaft is reversible so that it can go out either side, right or left, as you may know. The o-ring allowed almost all of the oil to rapidly leak out while the pump was running but some remained in the bottom of the crankcase. I'm actually amazed that it didn't totally burn the pump up, but as far as I can tell it didn't. I took the o-ring off an old pump that was still in good shape and fixed the problem and ordered a new one just in case. I noticed right behind that glass and I think on the other side too, are some very heavy duty looking bearings. They appear to be "splash" lubricated from the oil in the crank case. My question is, does the crankcase oil lubricate anything else inside the pump besides those bearings? I would surely have thought my pump was toast after running it probably at least several hours w/o knowing what was happening and almost no oil left in the crankcase. This pump is not on a pressure washer btw, but a truck mounted carpet cleaning equipment, so it was not so easy to notice the oil leak. I've never in over 30 years had the oil leak out of any pump I've owned so I think I can say this is probably a pretty rare event! The pump is a Comet LW3525 and probably is used on pressure washers too.
Did your Comet have a blockage in the cap vent? It sounds like it was pressurizing the oil? You are right, the oil really only splash lubricates the crank, inner bearings, and crank end of the plunger rods.
Im Honda GX 390 and this cat pump. But I'm in trouble with this. Low pressure, intermitent pressure and now it's like the pump is stuck in water pipe access, because i connect the hose and the water no exit by the gun. Put out of the gun and no water also. And some air burbles in hose return too. Really I'm crazy about that. I'm 66Dx35g1 pump series. I need your help
There is no water at all coming from your gun, or water just not pressurized? Without the pump running, and the water hose connected and on, you should still get a spray of normal 'mains pressure' water coming out of your gun.
