Watching your cat groom the dog reminds me when I used to bring my late dog home from the groomer my cat would inspect and lick down any flyaway hairs. My late cat wasn't too crazy about his bed being stolen. LOL! Both my dog and her cat brother are buried beside each other. I love seeing dog and cat siblings. Brings back good memories.

I got my dog a kitten for Christmas. Best decision ever. They bonded hard. Like you mention, if Travis, the kitten is in my lap and Domonic the Chihuahua isn't feeling it, 9 out of 10 times he will come get her off my lap. Jelly jelly lil man he is. 😅

My mother's boss had a cat that had kittens, and one day she brought them to work and announced that if no one took them, she'd dump them at the shelter the next morning. They had only just opened their eyes and really had no business being taken away from their mother, but she didn't care. My mother brought me home a kitten. I already had a Shar-Pei -- Maggie -- that was fully grown and a brand new Ori-Pei puppy -- Snapdragon -- (a hybrid breed that was intended to try to breed the health problems out of Shar-Pei and Pugs). Maggie was happy with the puppy, but she did not want the kitten. She was like, "NOPE. Return to sender on that thing, because that baby cannot stay here." After about 2-3 days, she realized we weren't returning him, and she decided to adopt both the puppy (who was supposed to be three months old and turned out to be about six weeks old) and the kitten, who we named Puddly. She was a Shar-Pei though and not a cat, so she raised him to be a Shar-Pei. One thing Shar-Pei mothers do when their puppies are acting up is that they grab one of their wrinkles on their face or neck and shake it, which is completely harmless, as it is floppy skin, but Puddly did not have wrinkles, so we'd have to say, "Maggie! That's his cheek! Stop shaking it!" Other than that, she was an amazing mother, especially for a dog that never had puppies of her own. Puddly never understood other cats though, as he hadn't seen any since he was taken from his mother and had boned with the dogs. Many things like grooming escaped him, and we'd have to wash him, like the other dogs (though I'd do it with a wash cloth, rather than in the tub); and he ate in a big sloppy way, like a dog. He eventually met a neighbor's cat and wanted no part of it. He was okay with it, until the cat meowed at him in a very friendly way, and then he jumped in my lap and hid his face from her. They had such a great dynamic. My current cat's mother or grandmother (not sure which, since the man that owned them was a little confused) apparently was a big adopter of babies as well. She raised puppies as well as squirrels at one point!
