CAT RC is a war... and we keep losing!

Two things to remember:
ONE: 📚💔 Disrespecting Our Ally: The passage is our ally 🤝 in this war. We need to treat it with respect, meaning we must carefully read 🧐, analyze 🤔, and understand 🧠 what it's telling us. When we skim through it, it's like turning our backs on an ally in the heat of battle. 🚫🔙
TWO: 🏳️‍ Losing Battles to Win the War: In any war, strategic retreats 🏳️‍ or tactical losses are sometimes necessary for ultimate victory. 🏆 Similarly, it might be smart to spend less time on difficult questions (lose small battles 👊❌) in order to focus on the ones you're confident in (win the war). It's not about winning every skirmish, but about strategically winning the war. ⌛🎯💡
Remember, preparation is key. As Sun Tzu said in The Art of War, "Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win." Good luck with your reading comprehension war! 🍀👑📖🎥

Hi Gejo, I was thinking if there is a framework (like "BEAST") or a fixed sets of questions that one can ask himself/herself after reading a "paragraph" and the answer to that would be the "key idea" of that paragraph? Please help me here.

Hi Gejo sir, for para summary questions, should we look for the option which are specific and contains most of the specific details from the paragraph or should we go for an option which talks about the broader idea/over-arching point of the paragraph?

Hi Sir, I have taken admission in MDI Gurgaon in its PGDM core program. Based on the provisional merit list I am certain that I will get a JBIMS(MMS) offer. Should I leave MDI for JB? Kindly suggest with rationale.
@GejoSpeaks
@GejoSpeaks 11 месяцев назад
Congratulations! 1. Both are at par.. You might get different views depending on whom you are asking. 2. Fees: If this is a key criteria, then JBIMS wins! 3. College life: If this is a key criteria, then MDI wins! It has a residential program and so there would be more (and natural) opportunities of engagement with your peers. Take a call - whatever it is, it will be a good decision :)

Sir I am aspirant of CAT 2023. I watched your videos on making notes and writing them in 4 words for each para. I tried applying it on the below RC but I feel a few crucial points are missing. Could you please help me by mentioning how you would have mapped this RC? The Frankfurt School, led by Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer, theorized that the rough beast of popular fascism would come round at last in bourgeois America. Relying on an unholy blend of Freud and early Marx, the Frankfurt School writers averred that Private life had ceased to be private since it had been colonized by the forces of industrialized leisure- movies, radio, TV, and comic books. These amusements were, they argued, the modern equivalent of the "bread and circuses" used to contain Rome's plebeians as the empire descended into decadence. With their formidable dialectical skills, they had the intellectual dexterity to argue past the lack of evidence and insist that the jackboots were coming. Because the underlying reality of American life, dominated by hectoring fathers a la Freud, was intrinsically fascist, they argued, there was no need for an overt movement of the sort represented by the Nazis. Nazism was inevitable in America. The Frankfurt School represented a new kind of left. It did not accept the notion that man was progressing inevitably to a higher state of consciousness. The elimination of poverty and the reduction of back-breaking work through machinery- once seen as great achievements that would help the working man achieve his mastery of the bourgeoisie- were in fact the enslavement of man by mere technology. "In the over-developed countries", wrote Herbert Marcuse, who became the most famous Frankfurt School theoretician of the 1960s, "an ever larger part of the population becomes one huge captive audience captured not by a total regime, but by the liberties of the citizens whose media of amusement and elevation compels the Other to partake of their sounds, sights, and smells," He was arguing, in effect, for greater social segregation between the elite and the hoi polloi. Dwight Macdonald, the most influential American critic of mass culture in the late 1950s, concurred with the Frankfurt School. Writing in crackling prose, he too argued that bourgeois prosperity was creating a cultural wasteland. "The work week has shrunk, real wages have risen, and never in history have so many people attained such a high standard of living as in this country since 1945," Macdonald complained. "Money, leisure, and knowledge," he went on, "the prerequisites for culture, are more plentiful and more evenly distributed than ever before."

Hello sir, sir I have watched your videos about comprehending paragraphs, your actual lesson videos. About solving any RC after watching your video, if i am able to completely comprehend a passage, whatever type of questions I am going to get those right it gets very easy. But here's the thing, I am not able to comprehend every rc, like not able to retain the main idea or author's opinion in each paragraph of RC. For example:- I was trying to solve 2022 slot 2 Rcs, 3 Rcs i comprehend and get answers right although it took me around 27-28 mins to comprehend and 2-3 mins to answer the questions. But next Rcs from slot 3 and one remaining from slot 2, i couldn't comprehend no matter how much time i gave in it, so I got just 1 question right, i tried really hard to comprehend. Please help sir, i think your approach can be a breakthrough for me since my accuracy level shoots up if i am able to comprehend the way you have taught. Thankyou

Sir, the short note making of key points from the passage has had a direct impact on continuous increase in accuracy but somehow the time taken has remained the same and I'm unable to read all 4 RCs. Should I keep practicing the same way or figure out a quicker way?
@GejoSpeaks
@GejoSpeaks 11 месяцев назад
Short note making forces you to reflect on the key idea of the passage. You taking the same time would likely suggest that your ability to take out key ideas is still a "work on progress". So, stick to the process since it is working for you. Over time, you would improve and you may even not have to take notes. You should analyse your attempts and see if you can reduce unnecessary time waste that you do in some specific questions.

Sir what about certain passages which are very deep ,for example a single sentence contains 2 to 3 idea's and then there are boatloads of these sentences inside the passage for example "he said georgia was first a part of the soviet union, demanding a reunion in anger" this was a very shitty example but i guess you got the point ,i hope! ,these types of paragraphs will basically force you to take atleast 7 to 8 min to just comprehend !, what should we do if that situation arises (personally i haven't seen such passages in cat but i have for sure in mocks)

Sir should we attempt RCs sequentially or we should spend a few minutes in setting preference and then start with easiest one. Please suggest
@GejoSpeaks
@GejoSpeaks 11 месяцев назад
This is something that I really don't have an answer to. The level of difficulty is not just based on the passage. It is also based on how the options are created. You will only come to know about the options only when you evaluate them. That said, the chances of you getting the answer correct is better if you understand the passage. So, it makes sense to select passage on the basis of your comfort level.
