Any tourniquet that stops the bright red spurting blood is the right tourniquet.

I love CAT for arms but like the SofT for legs because of the clip where you can quickly open it, throw it around a leg then reattach the clip

Good demonstrations here. Id say the CAT definitely has an advantage in one handed self application. Almost a deal breaker for me.

But sof got an advantage with applications on leg, i got 2 cats for arms, and 2 sofs for legs

@@Studenthj-m1m That’s a good idea. If you practice you’d be able to use two different tourniquets under pressure.

I have and use them both. CAT 7 is much faster to self apply. I like the SOF T Wide a lot. I carry both of them.

"Doc" McLaughlin -- hoping this'll get to you as I've gathered from your comments you were a corpsman with the FMF and/or attached to a Marine company as their "doc". Long after I left Uncle Sam's Canoe Club, I changed careers to being an RN. Cut my teetch at VA Reno. Many of my patients were former Marines. When I'd walk into a Marine's room, he'd see my gray hair and immediately address me as "Doc". Embarrassed I'd correct him saying that I was his nurse for the shift. I'd be even more embarrassed and would feel deeply honored when he'd correct me back with "No, you're MY doc!" Welcome home and Bravo Zulu for taking care of our brother vets out in the bush.

Another trick for the SOFT-T WIDE for self application, if you can, lean against a wall and trap the tourniquet between your arm and the wall so that you can pull it tight.

Yeah, but what works that's also a good part of a concealed- carry package?

Check us out for some SOFT Wide mods. In our opinion, they make the SOFT Wide the superior tourniquet. Great video!

What is the better TQ for use on children?
@MountainManMedical
@MountainManMedical 2 года назад
Current philosophy on children and TQs is that the CAT and SOF-T have been shown to work on children. It was previously thought it would be ineffective due to the smaller limbs of kids. But now it's been shown that both are effective due to the low blood pressure in children making it easier to occlude their little arteries. This ease of occlusion means an adult can quickly shut off bleeding in a child with only good direct pressure. Whenever you don't have a TQ available, direct pressure will add a lot of benefit.

@@MountainManMedicalthat’s good information to have, I want to start taking some classes and have at least a small med kit with me in vehicles for emergencies. There are stop the bleed classes not far from where I live I plan to start there

Uh! You don't have to thread the strap if you prep it properly in your IFAC. It can boil down to training if they support the need for an effective tourniquet.

" prestine as possible " every guy i work with has a raggedy looking CAT TQ 😂😂😂 carrying it on duty wares them out FAST really I would advise if you carry in on a duty belt or vest replacing it yearly at moat if not 6 to 8 months

I was taught (gen 6 CAT) single buckle for self aid and double buckle for buddy aid. Then a big study came out that single use all the time was the way the best way to use it.

I got three black CAT tourniquets, my question is... How many times can I use the same tourniquet?
@MountainManMedical
@MountainManMedical 2 года назад
They are designed for one time use only. Continually using the same TQ will weaken the material and increase it's chances of failure. That's why its a good idea to have a training TQ and one for actual bleeding.

The blade by itself is an EJ Snyder SXB from Tops Knives. The two blades together right behind my head are Kukri I got from from Afghanistan.

You applied the SOFT-Wide incorrectly. No disrespect. The strap should be able to be tightened via stretching flat across the chest. Just flip it around opposite way u had it. Active duty operator prefer the SOFT-Wide because it won’t get sand caught in the Velcro. Also be sure your SOFT has a lot number starting with 11 or 12 and ending in 19 or higher. They had a problem with the retention clips breaking (mine broke in training). Placing your tourniquet in a Molle pouch should be deployable and not hindered by rubber bands. See u on the battlefield. 😊👍

Thanks for the comment Bill. No disrespect, but I disagree. I'm not sure what you mean about the application of the SOF-T, but I've spent a decent amount of time in sandy environments and never had a problem with the hook and loop of a CAT becoming clogged with sand. I won't pretend to be an operator, but I've worked closely with many from the community, from SEALS, USMC Recon, Rangers, Special Forces and Delta and never once has any of them mentioned to me that particular issue. I also disagree with leaving the SOF-T loose in your pouch. Personally I'd rather take an additional 3 seconds to remove the bands then to pull out a tangled mess from my IFAK. You could get around the whole issue altogether by keeping the TQ in a pouch by itself I suppose. All that said, I still prefer the SOF-T if I'm treating someone else, and the CAT, if I'm staging the TQ for self application.
