This is the best CDDA lets play I have found for beginners IMO and deserves thousands of views. many of these systems are often skipped over by other LPers or explained in a way which bores you to death. somehow you have found a way to pack all this information in a waywhich is entertaining and easy to watch. keep up the good work man!
Thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated. Between this series and the Cataclysm University playlist i hoped to provide good resources to aide new players through the initial learning cliff that is Cataclysm. I'm glad your enjoying the episodes.
A friend of mine recently got into CDDA and after the third or forth story of hilarious, detailed hijinks I decided to check it out for myself. I absolutely wouldn't have been able to get anywhere without this video series, they're informative, well-paced and thorough. Great job!
I'm glad your finding the series helpful. It's a great game but can be pretty daunting without some early assistance to get over the learning curve. It's worth the effort though.
Just like for Dwarf Fortress, it is always nice to have a well done tutorial to help a new player easy into the massive task of learning a complex game. Great job, keep it up. Likes and subscription sent. :)
Really enjoying this let's play, you are doing a great job of explaining the systems of the game in a well thought out manner. I've tried and failed over the years to get into this game and this is definitely the best explanation of the game I have yet to see. Can't wait to see how the series proceeds and any other games you decide to cover!
Thanks. The game has incredible gameplay depth but it is very hard to get past the initial learning curve and can be quite frustrating without some specific knowledge. My hope/goal with this series was to help new players find the joy while minimizing the confusion.
Recipes change and specific details shift, but I like that this guide gives you a basic idea of what to do and the mindset you need to use to survive. I would not think of busting up lockers and benches to make stuff, but it really does make a huge difference from just wandering around looking for easy grabs and gives me a much more empowered experience... while dying rapidly several times lol. Still, it feels more like a learning experience than beating my head against a brick wall this way. Great video!
Started playing like 4 days ago, got super hooked and watched quils series (wish he didn't stop), and have been craving more and more of this game. I was a huge fan of dwarf forretress and I get a lot of vibes similar to it but wrapped up in a better to look at and (slightly) more user friendly UI and somehow maybe even more complexity. Certainly much more sandboxy anyway. I started getting on r/cdda a lot and your name popped quite a bit, and you seem like the best source of this game for me right now so thank you for playing this, more people really need to play it! Especially anyway who likes Project Zomboid or DF. Instant sub.
Welcome to the Cataclysm. I agree that more people should be playing this great game which is why i do my part in providing both tutorial content and challenge series. This is one of the very few games that has both amazing depth of content as well as complexity of systems. It's definitely worth the effort of learning/playing.
Thanks for these videos man, appreciate it. I'm on my first playthrough, i just barely went down the street and came across 8 bodies or so covered in guns and other things and now i have no idea what to do.
Oh hey i wasn't expecting a response directly from you, i was just sorta fishing around for general ideas and pointers from the comments here (if anyone happened to see). I've got everything from grenade launchers to assault rifles atm, i'm sure i'll accidentally kill my self with one.
Hmmm...only use them as a last resort. The noise they make will attract every zombie from a long way off. Guns are fun but also very dangerous due to that problem. Early game you want to avoid fights until you can gear up a bit. Advice can be a bit hard as it all is dependent on your situation/settings/map/skills/etc. If your familiar with Discord you might want to join my channel (linked in description) and ask for advice there. Lots of knowledgeable folks there will be happy to answer questions or give advice. Your much more likely to get help there than in comments here.
More specifically, the (fits) tag halves encumbrance, except for things over about 50 encumbrance (Basically just the hazmat/ANBC suit). In that case it just reduces it by 20 points.
Quick question, how do I add/remove things from chests or lockers, , is to pick up off the ground, but that doesn't seem to work for the starting lockers in the shelter.
I HAVE CREATED AN ITEM STACK AND DUBBED IT THE SUPER STASH WHO NEEDS CRATES WHEN YOU CAN HAVE A STACK OF VARIOUS ROCKS AND STICKS I'VE FOUND but seriously, thank you so much
Items will never despawn when just sitting on the ground. The only exceptions are that certain events like explosions or driving over a stack with a vehicle tire/tread can destroy some items.
Blinking stuff on the overworld map denotes various special things to pay attention to (quest location, NPC, etc). They can be toggled on/off using the options listed on the right side of the map. I will almost never recommend guns, especially for new players, as they create more problems than they solve in most situations. Guns at the time this series was recorded were especially useless but are better now. I've never actually used a nailgun rifle so i can't really provide any guidance on that specifically.
@@Vormithrax but there has to be more to it, i have cleared the area and i still see the blinking icons... there are no npcs and i deduce a mop or pair or rubber gloves left behind would not cause them to blink..?
Hmm, not directly, but a long career in customer service and technical support industries honed my communication skills and I've been told more than a few times that i have a pleasant 'broadcast' voice. For some reason I kept finding myself in training and team management positions. I'm just happy i can combine my talents with my favorite hobby. I'm glad your like the episodes. If your new to the game and need more details on a particular topic/mechanic be sure to check out the Cataclysm University series as well.
Put myself as camper and gave myself 20/20/20/20 stats then died because I was overencumbered becasue I accidentally picked up a fat zombie's corpse and a zombie hulk decided to paint with my entrails on a wall.
5th try. Just found a store that is fucking packed with items, I'm talking multiple cell phones, skill books, copper wire, light strips, all of it. I'm currently looting all I can and stuffing it into my (brand new) backpack!
This guide was very helpful so far, but you really need to update it. Can't put most items like makeshaft crowbar and spear into backpacks anymore. Prying stuff open with crowbar also seems to have some depth now, because i couldn't do any of that. Some game mods are also not there in the launcher anymore.
Sure, and then i would update it again tomorrow...then again the day after...etc. The game gets dozens of updates every single day. there is NO resource that stays current/accurate for any length of time. you mention two or three things...but i could mention a few hundred differences without breaking a sweat. I put out occasional new player guides and quick tip/university videos to try to keep the major systems informed but it's always a losing struggle i learned to live with long ago.
