Catalina 38 New Year Sail on Lake Mead 

Yes, we do sail in the winter in the desert! January 1 2023! The best way to start the New Year! On my favorite boat with my favorite friend. A rare low stratus cloud dayon Lake Mead. It was a "balmy" 53 degrees Farenheit with winds 11-18 kts from SW (sort of and sometimes!) with 20kt gusts? Since we weren't racing, we reefed the headsail (more manageable with just one sail trimmer - me!) and had a full Mainsail - we were making way at 7.4 kts. When the gusts increased we decided to reef the Mainsail to de-power and level her out. The Main actually had a better shape reefed! By the end of our 4.5 hour sail-about, the wind grinded to a halt, drizzle and fog settled in just as we needed to douse the Main! Thanks Lake Mead winds!
