I've been watching for some time now and am amazed at your talent and perseverance. I was in the yacht repair business for 30 years and know exactly what you are encountering in the planning and execution. I was thinking that if I had found your site sooner I would have volunteered to come and work . No charge, just a bed and food. 86 now, but still am very active. In leaving, had a thought, are you going to be able to just relax and enjoy the boat. Or constantly fiddle with minor details. Give your wife a hug she is a rare woman . Bye Bob W.

If you are worried about mold in the nacelles, I would recommend filling each one with two part urethane foam and capping them with fiberglass. That will give you more adhesive surface. Just a thought.
@bluebassboy32
@bluebassboy32 Год назад
Yup that's what I'd do, it would also increase buoyancy in the bow, so if she does dig in she'd come straight back up...

Hi Ross, could you fill the nacelles with expending foam, then there would never be any problem with water and they would be so much stronger, great vlogs really enjoy the progress every week regards john

being around boats for a while, I can tell you there is no such thing as "can never get water in" the wavebreakers need a drain of some sort, even if its a garboard drain plug... If never get water in worked, no glass boat would ever need the stringers, or transom replaced.

When you make a serial number to register the ship, you should try to incorporate Rosco in it somewhere. The rosco man sond is always playing in the background. Edit: the ship class is the Rosco 50.

@eshootziscrs2868
@eshootziscrs2868 Год назад
Ross, I think you'll do best with just an open hole in the bottom of your nacell. Any check valve will cause a vacuum when the temperature drops which will suck in water. Either seal it completely or leave it open enough to drain. Heck install a round exhaust vent for screening.
@LifeOnTheHulls
@LifeOnTheHulls Год назад
I agree, they are totally sealed for now but I will likely put a bung plug in at its lowest point that can be drained and relieve pressure in extreme heat.Cheers.Rossci
@latitudeash
@latitudeash Год назад
Why can’t you use the nacelles as extra fual tanks or even to store drinking water?
@LifeOnTheHulls
@LifeOnTheHulls Год назад
They would create a problem weight issue on the bow which would increase the pitching and hobby horsing, so in this case they will remain hollow.On many other cats they are positioned under the saloon and cabins so assist in weighing the boat down in the midships.

Ross, Could you perhaps "level" the irregularities like drywall installers do with taping mud or patching compound by using a flexible, wide putty knife or spatula tool ? I'm thinking pre-spray the wide edge of knife so it starts wet and draw over surface with just enough pressure to give you a level surface ? It will still need sanding, but a LOT less than before... The deflectors should stiffen that huge flat section of deck so it doesn't drum or magnify wave noise and spray hitting hull. Since the surface above is filled with chain lockers etc, maybe line bottoms with some removable tailored pieces of foam from boogie boards or similar elastic foam ?...Cheap, lightweight insulation to protect glass surfaces and removable for cleaning It may quiet that area from noise while under way, or early/late anchoring activities...

You’re right about needing good luck if something wrong happens like a capsize, but as always, luck starts at the design/build stage. You should be able to navigate the entire boat blindfolded and have something to either hold or grip to wherever you “naturally” reach out for which is completely different from “can” or “could” reach for. This is important even if it’s just for orientation reasons.

Hey Ross, there's a shovel there. That is a classic observation that I bet everyone one of us has made at some point. The tool that we need is nearby and we discover it halfway through the project we were working on. Funny.

I just can't wrap my head around taking on a multiyear project like this, both in terms of time investment and financial. If you place any value on your time, there is no way that this can be a winning proposition. I would rather take the money being put into the build and buy a boat that might need some refurbishing, but not 5+ years! To each his own, I guess. And every time I hear the term "fair it in" I just cringe. Sounds so simple, but it's hours of work each time.
