I’m sicilian, from Messina. Since 5 years I live in Canada. I have been following you since a long time. Always loved your content. This time I became very emotional.

Catania is my favorite place in Italy. We were there last year and completely fell in love immediately. The family owned restaurants, the streets, the people, the culture- everything was just perfect. We've also hicked Etna and explored a cave, which was super fun. Definitely wanna visit Catania again!!!

So nice to see you in Sicily enjoying the culture and of course the delicious food. I think the Umbrellas look so pretty.. the colors are beautiful. Is there a certain time of year they display them? We will be in Italy next week, visiting family in Avellino, then Tuscany, and Rome It's our third time there.. it's so hard to stay away from this beautiful country and people. Maybe we'll run into you one of these days!

I did not expect the number of seafood dishes in catania, but I know I should have. I can't remember tasting Granite, so I must have not been introduced to it. We also missed the Olive Leaf liqueur. Instead we got the cactus liqueur called "Fire of Etna" ... it was 70% alcohol ... leathal.

We were in Catania this past November and stayed a couple of streets over from where you stayed. We only found one restaurant where the food wasn't very good (the pasta was crunchy and not cooked). I didn't choose it but it was also against my rule of "No English Menu". It was on one of those left turn side streets after the fish market but before the Piazza. Otherwise, we loved Catania.

If you foreign people ever get the chance to come to Italy you will be positively surprised about how fish and vegetables taste way better than in many other countries. Basically we treat and cook them so differently, we add spices and herbs so all this gives a better result to the same product you were disappointed about back in the years. 😁

I must've gone in all the wrong directions. I was fairly sketched out in Catania. Several locations where I felt uncomfortable walking at night, and nearly nowhere I'd feel good leaving a car. I was enchanted by the rest of the eastern coast (siracusa, Taormina, messina), but the charm of catania eluded me.

I grew up here and I had no idea it was spelled with a U lolol. Arancino e arancini Is how I always remember. I remember the carnivals in Acireale, the fish markets near the piaza, Taormina roads, the smoke clouds from Etna. I forgot how Alessios accent is so unlike the Sicilian one, I just thought he was becoming Americanized, but I think that's just his northernness maybe? Lol
@aris1956
@aris1956 3 дня назад
Of course he comes from Emilia-Romagna, from northern Italy. With Sicily and the Sicilian accent he has nothing to do. Each of us Italians have an accent according to our area, our region of origin. But this is also the case with people from other countries.

My Father was a Canadian Soldier who was in the Italian Campaign. They landed in Scilly and then fought there way up the boot to Ortona. Ortona was street to street fighting and was considered one of the worst battles of the war, earning the reputation of “Little Stalingrad.” They we’re fighting elite German paratroopers. That’s where my Father was wounded and lost five of his friends. If he were alive today he would be amazed by all the food. Mostly the people were starving and many emigrated to Canada.🇨🇦
