Dr. Wong- I watched this video a few days before my double cataract replacement surgery. I now have the RX Sight Light Adjustable Lenses in both eyes. I'm very happy I had them done at the same time. My left eye was done first, and it was smooth and relatively quick. (I'm so glad I watched your other video about the surgery in real time!) My right eye took much longer, but I made it. My doctor is a perfectionist. Good! Thank you so much for your guidance. You are a real gem.

Given that my own surgery is scheduled just under 2 weeks from now, this excellent video certainly helps me better understand what to expect. My doctor prefers using the femtosecond laser and I completely respect his preference (I did watch videos about the laser’s pros/cons - and the evolution of some practices back to manual only). I just need to find one more video similar to this but with the laser to help me imagine what my experience might be like. Thank you for sharing this great content!

My understanding is medicare will pay for a pair of glasses after cataract surgery (just once per eye) so for someone not able to do same day procedure they don't remain unbalanced. I could be wrong but that is what I've read. Best to be done on the same day from what I see if out of pocket paying can be done!

Superb as always! I’m curious about the noise the phacoemulsification instrument makes - what is that tone indicating to you as it changes?
@ShannonWongMD
@ShannonWongMD 6 месяцев назад
The tones inform the surgeon if the tip of the instrument inside the eye is neither infusing fluid or aspirating fluid, infusing fluid and not aspirating fluid, or infusing and aspirating fluid concurrently.

Awesome video Dr. Wong- typically are you using 5 or 10mg of Valium for in office surgery? Thank you
@ShannonWongMD
@ShannonWongMD 6 месяцев назад
Our default setting is Valium 10mg before surgery. Some patients receive Zero valium and some receive 20 mg or more of valium....depends on the patient.

Hey Dr. Wong! We have in-office cataract suites as well and I was looking to buy new beds for us. What company did you get your bed from? It looks great

Bilateral same day cataract surgery is already covered by insurance if the surgeon is willing to accept a 100% payment by insurance for the first eye and a 50% payment by insurance for the second eye.
@ShannonWongMD
@ShannonWongMD 6 месяцев назад
You are correct. Most surgeons are not willing to accept 50% payment for the 2nd eye.

I think there is no logic of deducting 50% for second eye by insurance companies for cataract surgery. Essentially these are 2 separate surgeries and not 2 different procedures in same organ or through same incision. Insurance companies should modify rules for the patients benefit.

@@ShannonWongMDYes, but for bilateral, are there surgeons who would be willing to accept the 100% insurance coverage for the first eye, and 50% covered for the 2nd eye, but with the patient paying the remaining 50% for the 2nd eye?

The process that you describe is known as "balanced billing" which is not legal in the state of Texas: www.tdi.texas.gov/medical-billing/index.html

I’m in UK with cataract, searching through maze of what’s best for me, consulted one surgeon but realised they’re tied to one lens supplier only. Is that normal?

Can this cause dry eyes by puncturing the eye with those instruments?
