I went to Amsterdam a few years ago and went on an architectural tour. The guide told us that the city is similar to New Orleans and is below sea level. He said Katrina and disasters like this are completely preventable. In Amsterdam they have two levy systems to my recollection. One will break if compromised, then it triggers the emergency levy to hold. When the first one breaks it gives the town a little over an hour to evacuate. Before the second one gives way. As citizens we should be demanding more transparency in where our taxes are going. Our infrastructure is SUB PAR.
