So funny. The other morning was in the yard . Lotta busy bird action when suddenly from above, i hear this random chattering only to look up to see a local mockingbird zooming past and with every wing flap he made a different sound. Its as if he was practicing every single sound he knew and with the timing of the wing flaps, it was hilarious. Lets see, he did a croaking frog, a cawing crow, a house sparrow song, an ambulance siren, a black phoebe call, an owl, a barking sound and more as he flew overhead. I laughed out loud so funny.

I just saw my very first catbird on Weds, but it didn’t came back yesterday. He/she only ate the suet cake that I had out for the woodpeckers. It was nice seeing a new bird I hope it comes back.

I was just reading up on the catbird yesterday - this was perfect timing! I love the catbirds in my yard, there’s one that follows me around while I’m gardening like you were saying. They’re my little companions 😊 Thanks for this presentation Mark!

Rural Central/West NJ We have lots of catbirds, occasional mockingbird, and just saw my first Brown Thrasher today! We love watching them and they do love all of our thick brush in our wooded areas. My favorite thrasher behavior is when they find a dry patch to take a dust bath. I didn’t know they like jelly too. I always learn so much from you!

I love my catbirds. I think of all the mimic thrushes, they have the sweetest, smoothest, most melodic song 🐦 Its 8:30pm right now, dark - and when I go out on the back deck, I still here them singing in the forest to each other 💕

Last year, there was a mockingbird nesting in our local Home Depot flower scaffolding. She was only about ten feet off the ground, and you can imagine the parade of people constantly filing by.

That is amazing. Good thing they were not overly aggressive once the eggs hatched.

That was a good program idea. I always have enjoyed mimicking catbirds on my local bike/walking trail for the songs I can whistle to. They always pop up to the top of a shrub for a better view of who is doing it. Cracks me up. lol Its surprising the amount of birds that mimic others, though, it really is. I seen a comment about Blue Jays and it's true; they do it a good amount.

I heard a Blue Jay mimic a Red Tailed Hawk. I also got dive bombed by one of those Mockingbirds while going for a walk, it was a baby one nearby and probably thought I was a threat. I wasn’t mad though that’s a good mother protecting her babies. I actually laughed 😂. I still love them.

@@MarksBackyardBirds Yes that’s very true and that’s why I wasn’t mad. It didn’t touch me it was just hovering above my head. I didn’t touch the baby or anything just minding my own business walking. I just saw the baby and the mother hovered above me. The Mockingbird seems very territorial.

I have had lots of catbirds at my feeder this weekend. Beautiful birds. Interestingly they aren’t showing any interest in jelly and aren’t huge on dried grubs. I think they are looking for suet crumbs.

I get the cat birds every year and they are fun to listen to. Please sound like a little baby kitten lol this has been a strange year for us in Michigan. I have four boxes. For my wrens and there is no females for some crazy reason. Friends of mine have told me the same thing boxes are stuck, but there are no females 10 May what’s going on?
@MarksBackyardBirds
@MarksBackyardBirds 4 месяца назад
It is common for House Wren females to be a week or two later than the males. One male will stuck several boxes and not allow another male near them.
