I really like these catch and cook videos where you target underrated species, it really shows that you can't just dismiss a species because they aren't popular to eat.
I like this video. It was a nice, simple video that applies the easier type of fishing that MOST anyone and families can do. It's been quite a while since I have written comment...but I'm always watching. I have traveled most every city across half the U.S. and several Countries. I always make time for fishing and exploring what is available wherever I am at. I remember both Croakers and Whiting being very popular around the NC and SC coastline. The locals there often beach/surf fish for them. It's really nice to get away from the deep water techniques and get back to some of the basics - it's much more relaxing and enjoy getting back to our fundamentals. Keep up the great work Brant. You and your channel has been doing awesome. Please consider continuing to do those funny segments exposing the negative haters, poorly written grammar, etc on a monthly basis - THOSE ARE HILARIOUS :-) :-) ! ! !
Always enjoy the videos from you and Jack and the catch and cook are some of the best!! It’s always great to see, what I call the personal side of the videos not just the professional side!!! Thanks
I used to think croakers were a nuisance fish, since they're so small they wouldn't provide much to eat, and I always threw them back when caught. Now that I watched this video, I will keep my croakers. Thanks Brant
Whiting taste better and those are some tiny croaker !! Would have thrown them back or used’em as cut bait for the drum lol 😂! Croaker are definitely good, but I like’em a bit bigger than a hand length. We get “golden croaker” here and they fillet beautifully. I don’t like the skin though. What’s your opinion on “whiting”?
Hey Barnt, great vid again. Quick question do you think side scan is worth it for a new fishfinder. About to pull the trigger and not sure if it will be worth it to fish here in the bay and near shore sites, is it worth it?
Brant love croakers great eating fish. Put them in the oven for about 20 mins at 350 throw some old bay, and a bit of butter on them. We get some nice croakers in the Chesapeake. Great video!
good comment about eating everything out there. we just had a killer day monday on the white trout and whiting, topped off with a black drum. my buddy and i probably ate 20 fish that night.
Love this video. I live in Australia and noticed a bunch of vids overseas saying bluefish are terrible (Pomatomus saltatrix) but over here they are super sought after and are called Tailor, just shows its all relative to your expectation of what you think is worth eating
Blues have a fish taste but cooked right are great to eat. I poach the meat in salted water then remove the dark meat, the fishy part with a fork. I then make up my favorite crab cake recipe and add flaked bluefish bits in place of the crab. Patty and fry, taste awesome...
When I was little my grandma and I use to go fishing and catch Crocker and dress them and she would fry them up. They are really good fish to eat. I believe the only thing you had to be careful with are little bones. But very good.
You make an excellent point on fishing to eat. There are plenty of under rated species out there to eat. We need limits to support a healthy fishery whether people like it or not. I think we should eat what is sustainable which might not be what most people consider "desirable". Thanks for the video
When I'm at the beach and go to the fish market, I'm praying they have croaker. Other patrons look at me like I must not have a job, but the fish monger totally gets it.
live in va for years. Croaker are good. Fish for them every year in the Chesapeake bay, Norfolk area. No limit in Virginia they are all over the place in may june july
Croakers area a great tasting fish when you hard fry them..you get that tail cooked crispy and you have fish chip..catfish are great eating as well... croakers love bloodworms so if you can get some they will inhale that all day long...and you only put enough to cover the hook and save the rest of the worm for rebating.
That will be great pop-croaker!! I enjoyed eating them and we know they are so small to eat but look at what we eat sardine or herring in olive oil can yummy!!!!
I was fishing at the Boynton inlet last week and caught 3 Catfish in a row. I would never eat them but another angler was happy to take them. I'm going to guess, against your better tastebuds, you are going to do a Catfish, catch n cook!
Maybe it's just me but I remember 20+ years ago when the croaker were closer to 15"-16" and would hit a grub while trolling. Only problem I see with these catch and cook vids is that now all the so called "trash fish" that most folks threw back they are going to keep. So now fish like the croaker are going to be extinct like the red snapper. That and we got to get you a Cajun cooker or Bayou classic fryer.
YelloMelloFin where I'm at in Florida if you go to the reefs you can't get your bait passed the red snapper your lucky to get a grouper and there is a lot of them
Darien Foster it's same down here in Venice, Louisiana mate. Tons of red snappers but can't keep or get pass them. It's all about commercial fishing with those snappers.
