The first in a series covering sea fishing at Hastings and St. Leonards (East Sussex, UK).
Two daytime sessions from Stade Beach in the harbour area end of Hastings (recorded on 17.04.24 and 16.05.24) trying to catch any flatfish. The sessions follow on from watching a charity match and some footage from that is included. A good range of species were caught. Techniques and rigs are covered.

Shame about the fish that you lost Michael, both the flatties & the bigger one. Plenty of variety though & you were kept busy on both sessions. Nice to see the smoothound pups. Thanks for the content as always 🐟

You fished worm mostly, I believe, which is why you weren’t immediately into the Doggies, they will eat virtually anything of course, but fish baits are best for them. Mackerel will get them on the beach quickly and continuously to the exclusion of all else at times, so I just stopped fishing Mackerel hoping to not catch Doggies, Sand eels are a better fish bait, I feel, they’ll catch Smooth hounds, and Rays , with flatfish falling to worms. Frozen black lug, are a good bait too. Catching some really nice Dover Sole on the South Wales coast during the summer months and Cod during winter, all such good eating. Fresh Peelers for the Bass! The prolific Dogfish numbers are spoiling the fishing though, as fishing trips, take some planning, and they aren’t cheap either, just to catch them damned Doggies!!! Is it really worth it? Thanks for the vid, that wind noise was a nuisance.

Yes - I agree about baits for dogfish: which is why I avoided using fish baits as much as possible, since I didn't want to catch them, unless there's nothing else present!

Great video. I watch Saltwater Angler and he fishes lures off of the rocks at Warrior Square for Bass.

Was fishing Rock an Ore 5.30 Sunday morning. Zero fish and couldn't believe the tide pull from East to West !

@rodsangleuk6283 Месяц назад
That's a shame Simon, hope you catch next time. Yes the tidal pull has been pretty severe in a number of Sussex and Kent venues recently.

Hi Rod? When you use ragworm what part would you say is the best.Head middle or tail.
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 Месяц назад
Good question. I usually use small baits, so often split my ragworm in two. I don't find it makes much difference, but I prefer to use the tail end for soles - need to get my first one of the year soon!

@rodsangleuk6283 yeah I do much the same when sole fishing but most of the time I get schoolies and flounder witch is OK its better than blanking.
