Catch lights or eye lights are very important to help grab the attention of your viewer in cinematography. By creating a catch light in your subject's eyes, it makes it easier for the viewer to maintain eye contact and create a connection, so this video we break down a couple ways to do this.

Thanks Brady! As an aspiring Australian DOP, all your videos have so much value and I'm soaking it all in. Your humility and calmness makes each tutorial feel comfortable and easy to follow. I think I'm getting convinced to get a F22c. Keep it up!

Well done. I’ve seen gaffers give catch light to the hero and omit it from villains. Good stuff.

HEY Brady as one of your viewers I'd like to challenge you to use a flashlight and the phone camera to shoot the video of any content

And practicals? Not to be a negative Nancy, but I think it’d be too dark for the tiny sensor of a phone camera :/

Thank you so much Brady. I am a photographer looking to "expand" into filmmaking and your videos have been an invaluable help to "cross the bridge". Also, only 2-3 days ago I was wondering how to create catch lights for a close up for my first short movie and you post this - perfect timing!!

Well done good sir! Simple and to the point. Option #2 is always my favorite. But I like how you worked in more of the shot breakdown as well!

Hi Brady, thanks for the tip to get catch light with MC Pro. I don't light through muslin. What type or specs of muslin is require? Anything specific in the Bleached and unbleach mulsin I have to look out for?

That second shot is looking real gritty. I'm interested in the focal length used for these (as well as your talking head shots often) I always feel like my talking head shots are too "close" but don't like the distorted look when getting closer and shooting wide. Or am I just not a fan of seeing my own face? haha

First one... so I thought I'd ask a question... Do you prefer the Amaran F22C over using bowens light with a soft box? And if so why? I'm asking because I see that you've been using it a lot and I'm thinking of picking one up.
@Michal_Kedzierski
@Michal_Kedzierski Год назад
I have the same light and I can tell you I use it the most because it is just so damn versatile. It doesn't need a huge softbox, it's essentially a flat mat, and being RGB its so flexible, its really great in small or tight environments.

I remember the first time someone taught me what a catch light was and how interesting I thought it to be.... I didn't shut up about catchlights for a good year after that to anybody who would listen. #apologies

I really benefit from your educational videos.. Sorry for the inconvenience, my question does not mean that I do not respect everyone's privacy, but I am only from Africa and I do not understand the nail polish he uses. Does this mean what I think he means (you understand what I mean) or is it normal, I apologize once again if my comment offended anyone because this was not my intention, it just aroused my curiosity, so I try to understand. I apologize again.
