By popular demand, here is another generic 1985 episode of Catch Phrase. DISCLAIMER: I do not own the rights to this show. Intended for educational purposes only.
$75K is the maximum amount because the show aired on WCBS in NYC and they might have had to abide by CBS rules at the time(retire at $50K, keep up to $75K was the rule for Pyramid and PYL in Fall 1985). Singer Walter Egan of Magnet and Steel fame was a four time champion on this show but none of his episodes have surfaced. Walter appeared on Scrabble in the 80s as well but did not win. Charlie TUna recognized his song Magnet and Steel however.
+Zach Horan This aired on KCBS in LA, too. But this was syndicated, not solely for CBS stations. Though in my neck of the woods, KPIX (CBS in San Francisco) had this.
The Baltimore Channel that showed it is now their CBS affiliate but at the time it was their ABC affiliate. There was no Washington DC affiliate that carried it. I remember WCBS having it before I left New York. So yes it was first run syndicated
I moved here in November of 1985. If channel 4 did have it, it was while I was still in New York, but they must have dropped it by the time I got here because Channel 13 WJZ was the only channel showing it.
It's too bad that Mr. Art James made his last TV quiz show via Catch Phrase just before he passed out circa 2004, 13 years earlier after he disappeared from the small screen upon not having emceeing another future game show at all, of course!
