Great stuff brother. I’ve fished salmon growing up in Michigan, but haven’t tried for them in 20+ years. Torn between heading to the gulf or north with my kayak to fish salmon the first week of September. I custom paint baits so anxious to try some out

I used to do that back in my early videos but I no longer do it for 2 reasons. 1. It's just more work on the water and come editing time and 2. it often shows too much especially compared to a front cam. It's a balance trying to fish and film while not upsetting the regulars in the areas that I'm fishing. So I try my best to focus on the info and not necessarily exactly where I'm fishing. Many times it can be replicated anywhere this side of the lake

Michael, awesome video. I have just gotten into Kayak fishing this year and I love it. So, since I am a newbie, can you tell me what rod and reel combos you are running in this video? After watching this vid I am now itching to try and catch Lake Trout on Lake Geneva. ;) Thanks in advance!

A 8-9' med action rod, a 20 size line counter reel, 20lb mono backing followed by 30lb hi-vis braid. Find the brands you like and that will get you started.

I've fought kings inside and between boat docks/slips, when they're schooled hard haven't had any major issues. A few breaks on pilings when I horse them, other than that if you play them, you'll just do 360's like crazy lol.

The issue is if they're on your side and suddenly burst on a run and you're not expecting it, you can take a swim. More so for new folks but I've seen it happen to vets as well. That's why I recommend fighting them in front of you as much as you can.

Kind of a loaded question...what defines "best""? I'll just say you can catch them pretty much year round but spring and fall I'd say provide the easier opportunities for salmon

First fish was foul hooked on it’s fin. Not in its mouth when it got to the net. I wouldn’t risk keeping that in Wisconsin. The DNR does not play up there. Doesn’t seem like fun in the kayak with no room to fight the fish and put your gear. So much trouble for fish that can be caught from shore.

Treble probably unhooked from the mouth and the other was in the fin. Happens a lot while running cranks.

So I have to correct you because the fish WAS hooked in the mouth. The tail treble was in its mouth. The front Treble must've swung around during the fight and caught its fin. Happens all the time was cranks. Also, its 100% more fun in the kayak than from shore. I have plenty of room on my yak. I'll take kayak fishing over being shoulder to shoulder on shore during King season any day.

Back hook was in its mouth. It's pretty visible in the vid but yes it happens all the time with cranks.
