Good stuff boys! Those were some beautiful fish. I laughed a little bit when you said there were more plates from Minnesota in the lot than ones from Montana. Can't wait to see what's next.

Parente with the no-assist double, nice. Nice job guys. In New England they're considered somewhat less sporting and good for eating than other fish but they were one of my favorites. Just different and exciting.

I fish fort peck for lakers all the time! My favorite fish to target. Jigging them in the summer is awesome with the family kids swim and float in tubes while I fish. Ice fishing them can be tough at times because they can be anywhere!

Great times guys. I fished for Macs in Lake Tahoe and caught them at nearly 200 ft! Their airbag was blown when we brought them up.

Fished there 3 years ago and slayed the Lakers, my 12 yr old daughter landed a 38 incher. Had a great time on Flathead, a local suggested we marinate and grill them smothered in French dressing, it was delicious.

Sweet video and thanks for releasing those bigger lakers. I've unfortunately cleaned hundreds of Lakers over the years as a guide and and never found a bull or a cutt in them. Flathead lake is a lake trout fishery period you will never fill it up with the "natives" those days are gone. BTW you can keep slot fish on the Indian side of the lake pretty sad their a slow growing fish. Just thought you'd like a locals opinion that grew up fishing the fishery.

What happened to the fishing on Flathead Lake is nothing short of a complete travesty! I was born and raised in Polson, MT on the banks of Flathead Lake and fished it heavily until i left for the military in the Fall of 1987. The fishing back in the 70s and 80s was awesome! Trophy Lakers (i'm talking the 30+lb type), nice Kokanee Salmon, Jumbo Yellow Perch, Trophy Dolly Varden (aka. Bull Trout), etc... You see what really makes for true trophy sized Lake Trout is Kokanee Salmon. With the introduction of Mysis Shrimp combined with piss poor management the Salmon were decimated (Mysis Shrimp eat the zoo plankton that the Salmon feed on, but since Flathead is so deep the Shrimp go deep during the day when Salmon feed, then come up at night and eat all the plankton. Thus, the Salmon had no plankton to eat and no Shrimp to be had during the day). With the Salmon gone you will still catch Laker's but not the trophy size. Without the Salmon to eat the Lakers turned to the Yellow Perch, which are now nearly decimated in the lake. We used to catch 5 gallon buckets full of Jumbo Perch in East Polson Bay. So now Flathead is pretty much only good for a bunch of Jr. sized Lakers and with half the lake on the Reservation there is NO hope of every restoring it or making it the great fishery that it could be. Another issue with Flathead is that it's dying.... all of the weed beds are disappearing, thus many of the shallow bays which used to have good weed beds are now just mud. Not sure why this is occurring.... maybe toxins from all of the houses (septic systems, pesticides, fertilizers, etc.). And it will always be KERR Damn to me! Great episode, thanks for sharing.

Looks like fun. Im coming in this summer, how productive is lake trout fishing in late june early july? Is there a guide/outfitter network available for this or is it all on your own?
@huntsimple9527

Native Montanan here, grew up in Kalispell and have fished Flathead for years. Late June and early July is an excellent time for Lake Trout fishing. Many of my biggest fish are during the early part of July. There are many guides available. I would recommend you contact Todd at Flathead Lake Charters. The lake has changed dramatically the past 8-10 years with the larger fish harder to catch due to less competition for food (i.e. they have an easy time finding food so they are not desperate to hit fake lures), but some large fish can still be caught. Anything over about 25 inches is not edible, too fatty/oily. But those fish 20 to 25 inches are very tasty if prepared properly. Best of luck! Tell Todd you want to fish the "trench" in front of Woods Bay! He will know exactly what you are talking about!

non of those fish are big and not even close to giant especially for flathead

None of those were giants for sure, but they were decent fish for those guys. Looked like fall with the fins all colored up. My biggest fish have always come in the summer months in deeper water.
