New to the channel, laid back fishin is my fav type of fishin.. I fish creeks mainly, but creeks that hold 8lb wipers on a regular and it dumps into the Ohio,so the sky's pretty much the limit when it comes to size, species and cats are big...
What do I need to look for around pueblo on the ark to find good cats? I've been trying the spillway alot at the rez I've tried that stretch of river all the way down past Valco ponds and nothing as well I've tried a half a mile both ways from 4th street bridge
Above and below spillways should produce with some patience. Aside from that, you want to pretty much avoid straight, fast flowing stretches. Look for pools of slower water, bends, and points where waters converge & you'll eventually get into something. I'd stick to cut bait too 👍
This past weekend I hooked into a FAT-ass 32" channel cat at Runyon of all places...I should note that I was targeting bass but that kitty hammered my jig and was a blast to bring in 🤣 Fortunately I had my scale and it ended up just passing 16 pounds. Probably not the most ideal place to target them but I don't typically target cats...just goes to show that ya never know when or where or how you might run into a monster fish. Tight lines man🤙
I keep a lot of my catfish spots out there a secret because I put in a lot of hours & effort finding them, but believe it or not the Runyon Wildlife Area actually has pretty good catfishing in both lakes and the stretch of river that runs behind it.
Thank you! Believe it or not, the Arkansas is one of the most publicly accessible rivers I've fished. There are entire trail systems along the river that stretch for miles & have access throughout, and the best way to find access to rivers is to look up public parks and find some next to rivers. Almost all riverfront parks offer public river access 👍
This below the dam? Nice fish, been getting some bass and walleye in the rez but never really tried for cats. Thought about trying the Valco ponds for em.
Actually pretty far from the dam. There are some real monsters in the res. My best is a 39" from there, & I know of others who have topped that. Not many giants in Valco, but there are some in there. I think I have a vid somewhere on my channel landing one off my float tube at Valco
Did that turtle swim off? I love catching turtles, not on rod and reel though lol. What stretch of the river was that turtle? Spiny Softshell turtle btw.
It was gone when I walked past later that night. Nothing big came through that could have got it, so it had to have swam off. I'd rather not get too specific about the location in the comments, but if you DM me on IG (same handle) I'd be willing to share a bit more info 👍
