Thanks for highlighting the north! My condolences about your father. If you ever drive the Dempster again, it’s worth looking into going more north to go for some arctic char.

Thank you! Yeah there are plans to travel through the entire Dempster Highway in the future.

This video is very nostalgic for me. From Dawson, to driving through Tombstone, to catching a grayling in a stream in Tombstone, visiting Dredge No. 4, the paddleboat graveyard, etc. Gah! I've visited twice but there is just something that draws you back. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful video.

Great video, Rod, it was worth the wait. So happy my fly worked out for you guys. I came up with it during my first trip to the Yukon in '97 (1997, not 1897) Then I knew nothing about pike fishing and I met a First Nations fellow selling ice cream in the parking lot of Five Finger rapids. I asked him what do pike like, and he answered "Anything red and yellow" So I tied the most outrageous looking thing I could imagine. Linda's soliloquy at the Midnight Dome about why go to the Yukon is brilliant and true. "There's a land where the mountains are nameless, And the rivers all run God knows where...There's a land - oh it beckons and beckons, And I want to go back - and I will." May be doing my 5th summer trip in a row this August.

@Dave... you know it is easier just to stay here once you arrive. I came up on a 10 month contract. September 2000.

@@yukonica4560 Haha, It's still a consideration. Love Whitehorse and I'll be showing a Kiwi friend Dawson City and Tombstone in about 3 weeks time. Fifth summer trip in a row!

Missed opportunity not holding up the dorsal fins of the grayling, gotta get that content!😉 Condolences about your father, hope things are getting easier.

Yeah lol, if it was a really big one then I would have held up the dorsal fin. The big males' dorsal fin is pretty amazing, extending back to the caudal.

Thank you for the video! so pro! I’m heading to tombstone park for camping this September, I am wondering do you think it will be possible to bring a foldable spinner rod for arctic grayling fishing? (I’m a fishing beginner and can only do spinner rod fishing😅) Thank you!
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 2 месяца назад
Thanks Austin, are you going to hike Grizzly Lake? I've never done it but have friends who did it and had only good things to say about it. One friend did it in September and she said the Northern light show at night was amazing. I'm not totally sure how the grayling fishing is in September, but most likely it'll still be ok. The area where we fished is near the Northern boundary of Tombstone Territorial Park. Also, I'm not completely sure on the regulations, so you may want to check if it is fly fishing only or if you can use a spinning rod. If you can, then a tiny spoon or spinner (go with 1/16oz or 1/8oz if you can find some) should work quite well for them. Good luck!
