This week I spent some time on the Yarra River on the outskirts of Melbourne fishing for some small wild brown trout on nymphs and dries! This video I'm fishing nymph below dry fly on my euro nymphing set up. Enjoy!

Couldn't agree more. Nothing worse than someone taking a lot of care and effort to produce a great film, only to spoil it with some obnoxious music.

Hey Tom you are on my home water I have been fishing the Yarra for about 60 years I have fished almost every inch of it from Armstrong Creek to Kangaroo Ground and caught a lot of fish ,Trout Browns and Rainbows to 2 kgs Blackfish to 2 kgs also lots of other species some big eels ,Maccas, Roach , Red Fin ,it also contains Murray Cod, Yellow Belly and a couple of my mates have caught Bass up past Woori it also has at certain times Australian Grayling I have caught multiple species on bait, lures and fly day and night it's a wonderful stream to fish and very under rated and it does contain some big fish if you put in the effort.

Dude, yes. It’s so nice to see someone filming the hard days and being focused and positive through it. Thats the difference between the best and the ok. The best realize that they can only keep trying! Amazing vid man! 🙏❤️

Awesome haha I really liked this video for a few reasons.. you flicking a fish over your head makes me feel better 😅 the fluorocarbon with the trees thats a handy tip and also just nynph under dry on a nymph rod was interesting! So glad you did the yarra. A lot of people find it reaply tough and it can be some days but it has some great fish! There are some big ones in there too! I dunno why it doesnt always fish as good but if you go there on a termite hatch you'll see just how many fish there actually is in there! Its funny sometimes it fishes good at warby and above and terrible lower and other times vice versa

Which section of the Yarra were you fishing in this video? East Warburton or further down?

Another great video Tom. I haven’t tried hard enough on the Yarra. Good discussion about droppers. Maybe you could do a vid about your setups? What knot do you use for the dry dropper? It makes a lot of sense rather than off the bend of the hook and makes changing dry fly easier.

Thanks Stephen, so I use a triple surgeons on the rivers. Yeah I plan, I’ll try and do one over the off season :) Cheers, Tom

@@tomjarmanfishing3208 so do you cut the loop and tie the dry onto the tag? Or just use the loop for the dry? Hope that question makes sense. And thanks for the advice

@@stephenbendle6763 when I tie the triple surgeons I cut the top tag off and use the bottom tag as the dropper. I hope that makes sense :)

Hey Tom, When you say nymph under dry are you talking euro rig always? Or do u call it the same thing with a floating flyline? Dry always on a dropper never straight on? Also, If you are fishing a double nymph and decide to tie on a dry on top dropper, do u lengthen the tippet to the nymph? Or cut the dropper and retie a dropper closer to your sighter? I’d imagine if you just cut off your nymph on the dropper and tied on a dry your sighter would be too high and your nymph tag too short? I love the videos. Thanks
@tomjarmanfishing3208
@tomjarmanfishing3208 3 года назад
So no when I nymph under dry I’m not always on a euro rig, I am normally on a conventional floating line. And for both my dry is always off a dropper. If I change technique like that I’d probably re tie my tippet as the odds are the dropper length or length to my nymph won’t be spot on. Hope that answers that, it was complex question haha
@Cimmeron
@Cimmeron 3 года назад
@@tomjarmanfishing3208 yes it does. Thanks. I thought the dry on dropper was just for convenience to keep the same euro rig but fish to a rising fish if you weren’t carrying your second rod. Makes sense to re tie. What’s the negatives to tying the dry-dropper tag off the tippet ring? Sorry for all the questions. Cheers!
