Raw, 4K footage of intense Category 4 Hurricane Laura as it made landfall in Southwest Louisiana on August 27, 2020. We intercepted the eyewall from downtown Lake Charles, where we received wind gusts of at least 120 mph, perhaps stronger. Numerous buildings received significant wind damage, including a glass office building next to our parking garage, where the majority of windows shattered in the strong gusts.

This is my home! Or was, there's really nothing left and no media coverage so thank you for the media!! Southwest Louisiana still needs help, over 100,000 still without power, some still without water, people sleeping in tents or on the cement! So thank you for capturing it at its fullest! I've heard so many say Laura wasn't bad, or they haven't even heard of a hurricane hitting louisiana, so thank you for sharing the truth. Myself and thousands of others have lost everything to her winds.

Its like what that comedian Ron White said "It's not THAT the wind is blowing. It's WHAT the wind is blowing" Shards of glass in a 150 mph wind are going to turn you into human hamburger. Please stop being stupid. Even a car window isn't a guaranteed protection. You can see pictures online of metal rods and lumber driven through telephone poles. Debris can punch through a windshield like a finger through wet paper. Good God; people!

Amazing video my man. I've lived in Lake Charles all my life, so has my family. Our 4 Acres right down the road from Prien Lake Park got absolutely destroyed. All of our trees have either uprooted, or snapped. We stayed for it, and I definitely don't wish to stay in anotherone. A tree hit our house but luckily it got caught up on some shit and didn't go all the way through. The city is in shambles, and even a week later it still looks like a warzone here. Had to move up in Ruston LA until the house gets rebuilt (because all the rain from it's aftermath caused a shit ton of water damage)

Just Devastating damage. Someone's boat was gone. There were just pieces. It was so scary. About the traffic lights, Nothing was left of those. There were a couple of intersections still working. Do you have any idea what the sustained wind speed was at that location? How about the highest gusts? Do you have prior experience to compare this to other hurricanes? Thanks.
@MadWXChasing
@MadWXChasing 4 года назад
I’d say the highest gusts were about 135 mph at our location, with sustained winds topping out at around 115 mph or so, maybe slightly higher. This is the strongest hurricane I have actually experienced. Thanks for watching!

National geographic released the stats. Peaked at 150 mph. Strongest winds in the last 100 years or so. People are still suffering in the aftermath.
@lowellmccormick6991
@lowellmccormick6991 4 года назад
@@imafake2807 150mph is what I saw when it was approaching. The highest measured wind speed that I've seen was 131 at the mid-channel buoy (over water). The highest wind speed I saw recorded on land was 127mph. My wife's aunt's house in Lake Charles flooded during Rita but stayed dry this time. However, a large tree fell on her house and came thru the roof. We got lucky this time but I know what it's like to suffer in the aftermath of a hurricane.

In the North Atlantic Ocean and Northeast Pacific, they are called hurricanes. But if the same type of disturbance takes place in the Northwest Pacific Ocean, it is known as a typhoon. And in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean, cyclone is the correct term

It makes me angry seeing people talk about how cool it is seeing these things get ripped apart. My house was one of those things. My friends houses. My neighbors. Our jobs. It’s been two weeks since I’ve been home bc my house isn’t livable so instead I’m staying 4 hours away and have no idea when I’m going to get to go back and same with so many others. It’s not a movie. This town was people’s home. It’s still fresh and I understand that the whether is crazy and cool to watch it just sucks seeing our homes be destroyed and people using it for their entertainment. Watching this just leaves a pit in my stomach

As storm chasers, we enjoy witnessing and experiencing Mother Nature's power from up close. But, there's always a flip side to that; we hate seeing the aftermath and how these storms affect people's lives. We try our best to spread the word about these storms' impacts and help out where we can.

I live in Grant Parish about 100 miles Northeast ofLake Charles, Laura huffed and she puffed til she blew every power line in this Parish down! 100 percent outage we went 13 days without ,some people still without power! We didn't see a lot of rain but the wind was unlike anything I've ever seen, the damage to property is great because of all the trees that came down and will continue to fall for months to come!

The downed power lines electrified water in areas. Anyone unfortunate enough to come into contact with that before the power disconnected, was fried alive. My husband witnessed 2 of the people he went to rescue from being trapped in their homes come to that end. He reactivated himself to aid the local guard unit as a medic
