Go into the trades, find an apprenticeship. I'm 22, I graduated high school and spent 2 years at college. It wasn't for me, I dropped out, and it was the best thing I ever did. I spent 5 years in construction from home builder to heavy equipment operator. I landed an apprenticeship at a company that builds blast furnaces. I applied as a welding apprentice and they put me in their QC department as an apprentice. They send me to school to learn everything from welding to hydraulics, I can MIG TIG and stick weld all kinds of material, even aluminum and titanium. They pay for all of this. Please, take it from someone who has been there, go into the trades. It is well worth it.

Only problem is the transition to electrification in the future especially with the advent of new technology and the constant pressure from governments to ban the sale of new gas and diesel vehicles in the 2030s diesel is an uncertain future.
@DanielWilliams-lx7fg
@DanielWilliams-lx7fg Год назад
@mattdaddy_888 I used to think the same way. These real heavy vehicles can't operate on battery not for many many decades. Especially guys out in the foresty equipmwnt and mining

@@DanielWilliams-lx7fg I know but the government is becoming more of a communist dictatorship and with agenda 2030 they wanna force it on us regardless of how much less convenient the technology may be for companies who operate them.

Congratulations on your 10 years. I have been looking into trades and I am interested in this field. I have a few questions if you don't mind. How long did it take to get hands on in a shop? Are there any pre requirements? Mike Rowe has stated in videos that after a few years (I'm sure he meant 6+) you could make over 100k what is your experience?

I’ve been working on heavy Equipment since I got out of high school. Being born and raised doing demolition. I worked for my dad for several years as his mechanics apprentice. When his mechanic retired I took over and became lead mechanic. I’ve been on my own now for over almost 30yrs have my own service truck and more tools then I can carry. I do it all from rebuilding engines to welding and I love it. I work full time for a big mining company and do my side work on weekends. Great pay and great benefits not to mention what I do for myself on the side.

Well skilled trades are important however going to school for diesel is kinda pointless at this point in 20 years everything will be electric included medium heavy duty trucks and earth movers too I mean Caterpillar is already investing in electric excavators and earth movers and with the constant pressure from the government to ban internal combustion engines in the 2030s it's really an uncertain future.

I'm from a small town that is surrounded by farms forestry and the town is also home to many construction companies that go to cities or job sites. But there is no shops or companies that do mobile repair. I want to go get my repair license from cat just like my father did and start a company to fill that demand. with hopes in the future I can train others to become the same. it's sad that wile I was in school that a college rep said I'm going nowhere in my life because I told her I'm not going to there college to do 4+ years of school to sit behind a desk. That I wanted to be the guy if never met him would not know his name out in the dirt or standing on top of a big machine holding a wrench.
