Wonderful to see people like you with the skills and motivation to breathe new life into otherwise "throw-away" machinery. Far too much of what is purchased in this country is landfill-bound. Sad
Amen Mr. Ford, repair and reuse is what I prefer. To Hell with throwing it away to Buy a Newer Model that was Built Inferior Intentionally so we will rinse and repeat to Keep the Made in China Import Containers Constantly making round trips from their Shores to ours.
When I sell my townhouse, and possibly get a place that has grass to cut and gardens to grow, I will not be buying an over-priced, plastic Deere. Always wanted a vintage (running) Farmall. The garden will be tilled by an authentic Troybilt tiller. Had one years ago....never died; I just gave it away.
I grew up in Alaska and alot of really sweet tractors like this were left behind from ww2 then they built an airbase that might have shut down in 69 during my great grandma's time lol. But yeah lots of cool military tractors and old cats. When the government finally came and took the old equipment, tanks, dueces, etc. The tonnage was insaaaane, you'd think they were trying to sink our island 😂😂😂😂
Nice rescue and nice video, Randy. We are looking forward to seeing you get at least one of the two machines fully functional, restored and taking it to shows for the younger generations to see, learn about it, start it up and maybe even ride on it or drive it (and the older generations too). As the saying goes, "They don't make 'em like they used to." And that is what makes them so cool...they are "old school". Looking forward to your repair and restoration video series on one or both of these machines. ;)
I have a 52 D2 like that and a later model D2 electric start. The electric start is having the same fuel rack issue and plungers sticking its sat a few years. Im sure you probably know but that big bolt under the cover for the fuel rack is where you add oil for the injection pump. Hope the loader one is saveable
Tractor supply has replacement gas can spout kits. A breather is included but you’ll need to drill a 1/2 inch hole. I can’t understand why they made the spouts that style for “environmental reasons”. No matter how hard I try, I always ended up spilling a 1/2 gallon all over. After putting the old style back on, not a drop goes where I don’t want it.
I knew a Randy Walker back in the 80's, early 90's, this fellar was a Electrical Contractor around Lexington KY. I knew his Daddy in law, Harry. Anyways, that name kinda threw me, brought back memories.
I can't believe the one runs so nice! Actually the other one doesn't look.all that bad for sitting since the 60s However it's gonna be a project just getting it out 😂
Oh yeah! The tracks are locked up solid. Going to have to slide it onto the trailer. I've got a 12,000 lb winch and a snatch block but I'm not sure that's going to get it done. I'm thinking it will make good yard art!
Less blue grass music. If you have dead space just shut the camera down and restart, also the head camera don’t get it, too much bobbin around and sometimes you can’t see what you are trying to do as it was cut off by the hood. Keep at it you will learn as you go along.
I have to say that although the music is okay I much prefer the channel to talk to me tell me what they are doing, looking at and let me what is happening. I much prefer this type of your videos, similar to Matt on Diesel Creek.
Thats whats left of a belt pulley running off the PTO. Very common on crawlers of the period for flat belt work like theshers, buzzsaws, water pumps etc.
New to the channel, very frustrating with whoever is on the dozer.... i dont know how you didnt throw a wrench at him, everytime. Ugh... the look on his face says, he clearly doesnt have a clue what hes doing.
Learning point, when you go to revive an old diesel machine take 2 people that know how an eng8ne starts and runs. The old guy looked like he was at an amusement park pulling levers and pushing knobs.. Hilarious video.
Call dang it's like working with my pops back in the day Zero mechanical know-how you told him to run it on either until it gets going and what does he do gives it a little shot and put it back and then does not when you tell him when it was quiet to feed it the beans still doesn't get it just like my Pops just doesn't get it it's great at woodworking but can't turn a wrench to save his life
Clean the carburetor on a pony motor get it running right and use that started a thing before you tear up the machine trying to pop start it why would you even buy to dozers if you don't know what you're doing motor running make sure the rack is not sticking bleed out the lines do it right stop trying to pop start the dang thing
I think it would be easier with a couple of ropes once you get it up to speed 12 pop it into gear and want to take it out of gear once it starts and then maybe another one for the throttle I would be getting so infuriated like my stepdad it does not freaking understand
Any Caterpillar dozer uses diesel oil not not regular oil regular oil has wrong attitude diesel oil has the right additives in it for the engine on the in the big cat diesel
