Cathays Cemetery station

I was born at the old maternity unit in Glossop Rd, Adamsdown, Cardiff and my folks brought me to live for the first couple of years of my infant life at Malefant St in Cathays, at the end of which street ran Clun Terrace and the Rhymney railway. I can always remember there was a large what I always thought was a huge water tank for use by the steam trains as they began to ascend the long incline northwards toward the Cefn Onn tunnel. Now, as I grew up with plentiful visits to my grandparents house in Malefant St, it was a frequent occurrence for my sister and myself to trot up to the fence at the end of the street just to watch the trains passing along the cutting. But I never, ever knew about a station halt there, which would have primarily served the Cathays Cemetery. Thinking about it now, there used to be an old coal merchant's yard at the rear of Malefant St and where Fairoak Rd descends a short but steep hill under the railway bridge to a big road junction and a roundabout. That coal yard, now mews type housing, I think, was part of the access to that station halt; which kind of makes sense because on the other side of the railway lines was and still is the approach lane to the station platform from the Shirley Rd end. Interesting and I would love to confirm this.
