After the "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" teaser trailer is released, Graeme O'Neil takes a look at what Catherine O'Hara has to say about returning for the sequel and reviving "Day O".
Does anyone remember SCTV ? That's were she got her start it was a comedy sketch show in Canada I think it ran in America too but probably only in a few states but it was hilarious she was on there with greats like Eugene Levy , John Candy , Joe Flaherty , Martin Short , Rick Moranis , Andria Martin and some others but the show was really funny.
36 years ago , I am 41, remember it like it was yesterday. My mother took me to see this and rented it so many times. She passed away on the 9th. This would of been an epic reunion to go see it with her. RIP Mom, I love you.
Same. I would give anything to be able to see this in the theater with my folks again. It was hard to make my dad laugh, but Beetlejuice had them both in stitches. I'm so sorry for your loss. That grief can feel bottomless, but time helps. I very much hope the new Beetlejuice makes you as happy as the first one did.💜
Same!! I'm 41, I remember watching this so many times with my mom. She died suddenly in 2018 the week before her 60th birthday and the day before Halloween, which was her favorite holiday too. I wish she could see this with me. I'm sorry for your loss of your mom. It's so incredibly hard.
I deeply appreciate your remarkable kindness. I am immensely grateful for your lovely comment. Although some time has passed, I believe that sentiments like these are timeless, so please accept my heartfelt condolences as well. Sending you warm hugs.@@LA-rc7cw
Day-O (Banana Boat song) by Harry Belafonte is by far one of his most iconic songs.. and I love how Danny Elfman uses the hook for Beetlejuices theme in the first movie. I cant wait for this sequel. I think alot of us are eagerly waiting!
This woman will live forever in my head rent free for this line “if you don’t let me gut out this house and make it my own I will go insane and I will take you with me!”
Yeap!! Mr. Deetz' funeral......Jeffrey Jones definitely was not going to be rehired to play Mr Deetz since he is a "registered sex offender!!"😡 (since the early 2000's)
God that scene brings back memories. It was Me, my brother, 5 of our neighborhood kids, and my moms brstfriends 4 kids all learned this scene one day. Ill never forget it lol it was a Friday afternoon, and we practiced and practiced till we got it right. We were all 6-8 yrs old. That night we had the parents sit and watch us perform it. We had a blast and after doing it for all our parents, we kept doing it over and over and we would all just bust up laughing like it was the funniest thing ever. Man I'd give anything to be young again. I can't WAIT for this sequel to come out. I just wish my brother was still here to see it with me. 😢
I was watching a RU-vid video and the beetle juice trailer popped up as an add, I wasn’t watching the screen, all I heard was day-o and I was like, this can’t be real, the juice is loose and I am hyped
I'm 43 and soooo excited about this movie. My B Day is Sep 7th and we will definitely be going to see it. First time I've looked forward to my B Day in years.
I was a young girl when Beetlejuice first came out and as a 45yr old woman I can admit it is STILL one of my favorite movies....and I'm so excited to see the Beetlejuice 2....but honestly, I definitely do not think it will be as good as the first!! Of course Michael Keaton is a very talented & handsome man who is now in his early 70's...but while watching the new trailers, I've noticed his Beetlejuices voice is DEFINITELY NOT like it used to be....I would have loved to see Gina Davis return in this film (and I guess Baldwin even though I'm not a fan of his anymore) but there was an article somewhere where she had said "ghosts do not get old!!" And she's definitely right about that!! But she STILL looks FANTASTIC!!😉 And as for the funeral part, I do believe it most likely is for Mr Deetz..... I'm sure they were definitely NOT going to hire Jeffery Jones after he was caught trying to get an underaged boy to pose naked for him!! Which he is now on the "Registered Sex Offenders" list!!!😡😮
I saw this movie when it first came out into the theatres. I love this movie. I have seen this movie so many times, and I still love watching this movie. Can't wait for the sequel to come out. I have no expectations about the sequel. I am going to this movie to have fun. No high or low expectations. I will enjoy the movie for what it is, No over analyzing at all. That is how you enjoy a movie.
I am 42 now and remember when my dad took me to see the original and it was the only film to this day that people stood up and gave applause at the end.
If anyone is curious, JeffreyJones - who played Catherine O'hara's husband in the original - was [whatever we called] cancelled in 2003. He was charged with soliciting a minor to pose for nude photographs. Jones pleaded no contest and had subsequent arrests for failing to update his sex offender status.
He recently did the Deadwood movie. He is still working but definitely would be a blight on the glory of this film if he was in it. Makes for a better story with him dead anyway. Gives Lydia Deets a reason to come back to the small town.
I don't doubt that at all. As a 17-yr-old with little English background in a new country and rarely got the chance to watch Hollywood. Catherine O Hara singing that bizarre Day-O .... clearly stuck permanently in my mind from that day.
Crazy ! First I one came out in 1988. That seems like forever ago. I hope it can live up to the legendary reputation of the original. I always hoped they’d make a sequel.
Though I've been a fan of Catherine's since 1988, I still love her the most as Moira from Schitt's Creek and I am constantly listening to hear any little bit of Moira in Catherine's voice during interviews -- despite Moira having a truly unrecognizable accent that is bizarre and nothing like how Catherine actually speaks. Still yet, I still listen for it regardless.
If you look close while the casket is lowering, you can see Jeffrey’s picture on the tombstone, so that is daddy deetz. Someone also noticed the tombstone looks like a shark fin theorizing it was a shark attack that killed him
I've freeze framed the casket scene the best I could. I couldn't tell if it was Jeffrey Jones' character or not. From what I could tell, looked nothing like him, but more of a female looking character, unless they used a younger image and i couldnt recognizeit.. I'm not sold on the shark attack theory. But with Delia being a sculptor, I have no doubt she created the tombstone.
I still have the same earrings she wears in the dinner scene . I worked at Contempo casuals and we had the earrings. They cost $9 back in the day. I will be wearing them when I see the sequel.. Lol . I believe a lot of the accessories were from contempo however I have no confirmation.. So I will pretend.
I think Catherine's the only one from that Day O scene who is still acting. Dick Cavett and Susan Kellerman are pretty much retired, Adelle Lutz does costume design, Glenn Shadix is dead, and Jeffrey Jones...well, you really don't want to know about his life after Beetlejuice.
I believe she started on SCTV 😊😊 which broke her into her comedy movie career. She started out with other Canadian comedians like Eugene Levy and John Candy 💕💕
Jenna Ortega makes so much sense as Winona Ryder's daughter... Jeffrey Jones could still be doing community service somewhere to get through probation. Easier to kill off the character...
There is a funeral scene in Beetlejuice two there’s also a funeral scene in the Broadway show of Beetlejuice that I seen three times Lydia lost the mom. Oh mom, who do we lost in the second film who’s in the casket in the second film in the funeral scene?
As much as I love the dinner scene, I hope to hear it again in film like in trailer but also some new songs like it but also want a new edition of main theme song at beginning. I definitely give this teaser trailer a 👍👍👍👍
Jeffrey jones wasn't hired back because of his solicitation of a minor and failed numerous of times to register on the list. I am so happy Michael Keaton is back. Nobody could play Beetlejuice like him!!!
Sure, the song 'Day O' might be in this movie. But it sure isn't the original (unfortunately). Beetlejuice was the first time I ever heard the song 'Day O'. At the time, I thought it was just a song made for the movie. I didn't know it was a real song.
It’s the father. He was in prison for sexually abusing a child & having child porn. Don’t know if he’s out yet, but doubt they want that stink on the movie.
The biggest problem with the trailer is it left to many questions about the movie, I am hoping we get 1 or 2 more before the movie comes out that can explain a few things. Like what happened to Gina's, and Alex characters, how did Beetlejuice got his head back, and how he escaped. But it did leave me wanting to see the movie even more.
Only thing that needs to be shared in a future trailer is a voice over of Lydia and Dahlia talking and bringing up the Maitlands. I'll know they get addressed then, and everything else I'll see the movie for
To many many people rely on the trend of trailers breaking down the entire plot of films for them. This is a teaser its shows enough, not to much and I'd be happy if we dont even get a full trailer.
@@kimfromcanada8410 This. I'll never get the point of people commenting on teaser trailers wishing they spoiled the entire film for them. Like aww man why didn't it tell me how it ends.... sheesh just go watch it.
They could have that homage of Harry Belafonte that Winona Ryder did at the end of the first one but then they’re all doing it at the end of the second one.
I had fears for Hocus Pocus 2 ever since I saw the 1st trailer. It just looked like it missed the point. I don't think it was aweful it just didn't feel special.
Really sad Glenn Shadix could reprise the role of Otho. I keep thinking George Santos would be a good replacement but I wouldn't want to disrespect Shadix's memory.
