Gosh it's so frustrating to find a priest and reach out to them for help but many say "talk to a therapist"... priests need to start studying Psychology or something because how can you give advice if you don't know how to help people with basic problems they need to overcome.
Sure! We honor Mary as the Mother of Jesus and ask for her intercession, just like we would ask a friend to pray for us. Scripture supports this. In Luke 1:28, the angel calls Mary “full of grace,” showing her unique role in God’s plan. Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, also calls her “blessed among women” (Luke 1:42). Even Mary, in her Magnificat, says, “all generations will call me blessed” (Luke 1:48). So, honoring her is actually very biblical. When we ask Mary to pray for us, it’s like asking a family member in heaven to speak to Jesus on our behalf. We see an example of her intercession in the Bible at the wedding feast in Cana (John 2:1-11). When the wine runs out, Mary brings the need to Jesus, and even though His “hour had not yet come,” He performs His first miracle at her request. This shows the power of her intercession with her Son. The Church has honored Mary from the beginning. Early Church Fathers like St. Irenaeus and councils like Ephesus (431 AD) affirmed her special role as the “Mother of God” (Theotokos). The Catechism explains that devotion to Mary is intrinsic to Christian life, but it’s different from worship, which is reserved for God alone (CCC 971). So, when we pray to Mary, we’re not worshiping her-we’re asking for her help and guidance, trusting that she, as the mother of Jesus, will lead us closer to Him. Hope this helps!
