The tune of this hymn it's similar to a popular spanish language catholic hymn named "¡Oh María, Madre mía!" (¡Oh Mary my Mother!) Singed in all Marian Festivities in Mexico, Spain, Argentina and other Latin American countries.
Beautiful! Holds a spécial place in my heart coz t's one of memories of my Late Dad.. He used to sing it dutifuly every morning when I was a kid.. T'felt heavenly every time! We honour Mother Mary indeed!

Do a simple google search and you will learn that Catholics don't worship Mary . We venerate her . It does not bother us because we love our Mother very much .
Protestants live on the basics of Schola Scriptura, the unlike us Catholics do not have or live a liturgical life, remember according to Protestants, you are saved whatever you do, they have abolished all the Sacraments bar two, but as we as Catholics believe -Outside the Catholic Church there is no Salvation. All other christian sects are damned.

Honouring your Mother does not mean you worship her. Ignorance of certain facts of life can deprive you of doing the right things you ought to do. If only you could let go of your sentiments and crave for the truth, then would you understand those things that sentiments would naturally make you skip in the scriptures.
Mother Mary is love, for Jesus himself said, to take her as our own Mother, Mother is the epitome of how sinless a human can be, in that right she is just after the Son of Man himself, no other human has lived who has been as pure as Mother. For the glory of such a sinless life, she was taken up the heaven, no other human has had that honour. We pray to Mother for her to intercede at all times for us, and that's why she is the Queen of all saints and humans, we didn't elevate her, it was Christ himself who raised her to the pedestal she is at in the Church, who are we to contradict Jesus' wish. Mother is exemplified because she [prays ceaselessly for you, and me , for the entire mankind at all times. Hope you will understand her loving grace and embrace her for her holiness. Amen!
Those who have problems with Catholics, some Anglicans and the Orthodox honoring the Virgin Mary and other saints as intercessors ( not "worshiping" them - something given to God alone) forget or don't know that doing so is Scriptural. Revelation 5:8 speaks of the elders (saints) in heaven presenting golden bowls to God, which contain the prayers of the faithful on earth, acting as intermediaries! Clearly, we can pray directly to God, but also entreat the saints - who are part of our spiritual EXTENDED FAMILY - to intercede to God on our behalf.
@kensingtonpalace I do think that this hymn doesn't help the whole "Catholics worship the saints" thing, but there's really nothing inherently wrong with it, as it is probably just a bad translation in the first place.
Lovely but not the same tune that I sang as a child. The tune we used was far more upbeat and happy. The words are still the same though and still beautiful.
This is a completely different tune to the one we sang in church in the 1950s. This must be the post Vatican 2 modern version. The original tune was so much nicer. Trust the modernists to change what was once such a lovely tune for a lovely hymn dedicated to our Blessed Lady 🙏🏼✝️
I had a different melody in my mind as well, so I went looking. I have two copies of the St. Basil's Hymnal, one copyright 1925 and the other one copyright 1935, to see if it was printed there. There are two Marian Hymns with this title published in the hymnals. Hymn #59 is the exact arrangement recorded here, so I dare say it is not a "modernist" post Vatican II version. Just an added note, Hymn #60 in that old hymnal - also the same title, but a different melody - was not the one I have in my head either, so I am still on the hunt. I suspect some publisher may have set the lyrics to another common hymn tune with the proper meter for the syllables to fit, and that is the one our parish had in the choir.
This is the only tune I have heard for this hymn, nothing 'modernist' about it. It is also used for the hymn Ye Who Own the Faith of Jesus which is often sung on the Solemnity of the Annunciation [March 25 or thereabouts].
GOD SAID “For there is one God, and ONE mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” 1 Tim. 2:5.( RCC says Mary & 'saints' are) "Is God a liar"? Isa 6:3, or is man a liar (& demons)? "In vain, they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments-of-MEN" Mt 15:9. (RCC bi-passes what God teaches by making up their own contradictory teachings). GOD said: "Submit therefore to God: resist the Devil, and he will flee from you". Jms 4:7. That was simple, do it God's way & demons are COMMANDED BY GOD to get away from us. (RCC says u need a priest, prayers dedicated to a female, a woman of flesh, a dead creation, using plastic beads,(garlic, a mirror, latin,- just kidding). My point is we HAVE to believe what GOD says OVER & forever whatever anyone else says that contradicts HIS teachings: Isa 7:9 AMP "If you will not believe [& trust in God & His teaching], be assured that you will 'not' be established [accepted, acknowledged].” Prayer that is repetitive that a person repeats the same phrase over and over as some sort of formula is not biblical. In Mat 6:7 Jesus says, “And when you pray, do 'not' heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words” Jesus considers this practice empty, devoid of faith, it means to babble, or repeat the same things over and over mindlessly as the RCC teaches its people to do with the rosary, Litany, & Gregorian Chants (which contradicts God). When God speaks He is to be obeyed "as it is in heaven" not 'as it is in the RCC. The bible does not say, "except for any 'visits' Mary may make". God said: "Believers go to the grave at death, where they "sleep" until the resurrection" (I Cor 15). God never contradicts himself which means no one knows 'who' might end up in heaven OR hell. So WHY is the RCC praying to dead human's? That also means that (according to GOD) 'Mary' could never have appeared on earth. The Bible plainly says that "no man has ascended up to heaven" John 3:13 (RCC says Mary did-unbiblical) & "All have sinned" (Rom 3:23, (RCC says Mary never sinned-unbiblical) & "no one is truly righteous" Rom 3:10. (RCC says Mary is 'equal' to God as a 'queen', as mother of the world, & has made a female, a woman of flesh, a 'creation of God), a 'co-redemptress! What Arrogance! U teach RCC doctrine that contradicts God's word! Who did Jesus tell the Apostles to pray to? To "OUR FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN. Mt 6:9. Who did Jesus, Mary, the Apostles, the Israelites, the early church of Christ pray to? To GOD the FATHER! Who do catholics pray to? To dead creations, a false "mother" of flesh...idolatry...paganism. "Then you will call upon Me and come & pray to ME, & I will listen to you. You will seek ME & find ME when you search for ME with ALL your heart. >I< will be found by you, declares the LORD,..."
