I'm not religious, but must of it is the stuff of the devil. Of course it's a dangerous road to suppress sexual urges, but this guy just makes me feel icky. I think the point he was trying to make is that watching a pornography video is a lesser evil than committing an adulterous affair or committing a rape or molestation like some celibate priests have done. The Catholic Church does offer dispensation to priests who decide they want to leave and marry rather than to do things on the sly. So: when you take the vows, after about 5-6 years as seminarian, you do it with your eyes wide open; subsequently, if you want to leave, and ask for a dispensation, it is granted. In short: Catholic priests are those priests who accept and live in chastity - not at all easy, but no need to join or remain - the Church may flounder but it will never perish entirely.

Did you choose to be a priest or someone forced you? I am Catholic priest, no one forces you to be a priest! Everyone knows that in order to be a priest one should be willing to embrace celibacy sacrificially for the sake of God. Do not blame the church for your inability to remain faithful to ur commitment! I only pray that God helps you to be faithful where you are now! As far as I know being married has not stopped many men (including married pastors) from going after other women. They are only human, the catholic church is wrong for not allowing their priest to get married, they deserve love as well. This happens alot everywhere around the world people just turn a blind eye. I'm catholic and have alot priest friends that tell me they've almost all broke celibacy, alot of priest are also gay , a gay friend of mine is in a relationship with a gay catholic priest and I still believe we are nobody to judge. A priest at my church did this too. Father Pat. He was a priest and one of my religious Ed teachers. I remember always seeing this woman and her daughter at church. Seemed to be a single mom. I kind of assumed she was widowed but I dont know for sure. Well end of story is that he left the church and married her and they seemed very happy.

Our job is to pray for him. When he became a priest, he received a permanent mark upon his soul. He will be a priest of God forever. We just need to pray for him. I have no idea what you are saying. Aaron the Priest was married. Samuel the priest had sons, I assume he had a wife. Zacharias, John the Baptists' father was married to Elizabeth, he was a Priest. Whether you have sin or not, if you decide that you do not believe in God anymore then you cannot be saved. But the following passage of the same verse you use to justify your reasoning that Mary was a sinner also says : 'Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed', something most Protestant religions have totally ignored. Also the Angel said to Mary when he appeared to her, 'Hail, Full of Grace'. Firstly no human is higher in rank to an angel, yet he said 'Hail' to Mary insinuating that she was higher in rank than him. 'Full of Grace' No angel would have been allowed to approach Mary with those words unless she was without Sin. Psychologists are forbidden from engaging in sexual relations with their clients for this same reason. WhyCatholic In these situations , the priests whom I have known , have had honorable relationships with the women whom they fell in love with . They have not had sexual rendezvous or predatory relationships which have existed between sexual abusers and their victims or pedophile priests with victimized children .There have been numerous priests in my own Diocese who have been removed from the active priesthood because of sexual abuse of minors and embezzlement of parish funds to pay a black mailer in order to cover up his relationship with his gay lover . The priests who have left the priesthood to get married ( in my Diocese) were honorable men who had wholesome relationships with the women in their parish whom they fell in love with . They were good men whom the Roman Catholic Church lost as priests . Meanwhile the Roman Catholic Church has accepted many thousands of married men with wives and children into the Roman Catholic Church as Diocesan priests who were Anglican or Episcopal priests, Methodist ministers, or Lutheran ministers who converted to Catholic under the Vatican pastoral provision . There have been some in my Diocese .
This Catholic religion started the priest not to marry during the Dark Ages because they were doing all kinds of things, their bible doesn't tell them that!! Maybe this is why they mess with children and each other!

I don’t know how this man was leading a parish for 14 years. He clearly has no founding in spiritual direction. And it shows because he now is a pastor in another church. A man who instead of unifying people chose his own desires above his vocation. He knew what he was signing up for. Just like a man who commits adultery in marriage. He was married to Christ. This man should be pitied not celebrated who knows the state of his soul. I fear for that this man needs many prayers. God doesn’t will him to love another woman if he already vowed to sacrifice his life to the church any more than God wills a man who is married to fall in love with another woman and commit adultery. L There is a reason for it it’s not toxic at all and thousands of religious do it everyday and hundreds of canonizes saints did it as well. It doesn’t really matter that it came after Christ as long as it didn’t depart from the tradition of the church which develops overtime. The philosophy of St Thomas Aquinas was obviously more in depth than a 2nd century saint.

Gregory VII estimated as a celibate monk that the property of married priests, monks, deaconesses and nuns could be seized by imposing compulsory celibacy on them. They were not giving church money away to their families. It was the fruit of their labours compared to the income generated by a celibate monk which was then seized by claiming their marriage was invalid and their children, bastards. For such wickedness the RCC is bedevilled with sex scandals of different kinds and intensity for the centuries compulsory celibacy has been in force! And if you doubt read a pdf report of it on the Gregorian Reforms of the 11th century. My view of the RCC's compulsory celibacy rule for the Latin Rite has changed forever
This happened to my daughters inlaws. He was excommunicated but in time was able to come back and play the organ in his church. His family never accepted her. They had 3 children and he taught Latin in a local school. He’s in his 80’s now but anyone that hears this story still blames his wife and shudders when they hear that he broke his vows. He lost his family their place in heaven.

1000 years of forced celibacy, many years of which (up until today in many parts of the world) priests were the sleaziest man-whores out there, such as Luther's time. Even today in Mexico, whose Church still functions like its the Dark Ages, has this sleaze (watch "El Crimen del Padre Amaro"). They only forced it later on, and clearly many did not abide by it. Tons of sleazy history in the Church. Let them just have the option for marriage and they'll have much more normal lives
I’m not a prude but he did cause a scandal. He didn’t take his priestly vocation seriously. I remember when this happened. I don’t want to judge him but I believe he didn’t pray enough. He was was a liberal priest and it’s obvious in his answers on this interview.

Read the history of the Roman Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic Diocesan priesthood was a married priesthood for at least 12 centuries and it continued in many countries until the 16th century. Innocent II ( who was the Anti-Pope and came with military to take out the rightfully canonically( elected by majority of cardinals in conclave) elected Pope Anacletus II out of the Vatican and out of Rome. It was Innocent II who proclaimed that Diocesan priesthood should be celibate so that mrn couldn't have male heirs to inherit land.
There is absolutely nowhere in the Bible where God commands a pastor/priest stay single. It’s nothing more than a man-made rule of the Catholic Church, and It only invites trouble.

Glad that it helped! Yes, Pope Benedict recently formed what is called an 'Ordinariate' for Anglicans in Britain who wish to become Roman Catholic. Ordinariate groups are able to retain much of their Anglican Patrimony in Liturgy, Spirituality etc whilst being in full communion with the Holy See. Ordinariate Priests are also allowed to be married and have families. The Ordinariate has also now been formed in the States and Australia.

You're free to choose whatever you think to be true, so can everybody else, in this country at least. Nevertheless, there have been places where you could not choose to think your own ideas so freely. Becoming catholic priest one must make a vow of celibacy, this is common knowledge. In regard to making vows and promises: "If a man vows a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word. Is it true that the Catholic CHURCH is dwindling in population. It depends where you are. If you think man and woman a fair is caused by celibacy, then you dont know ua environment. How many married couples have extra marital afairs becoz of lack of DISCIPLINE AND RESPECT FOR THEIR COMITMENTS.Lets be realistic.
