Cato's Tale is a Hand To Harp Song Tale written and performed by Tony Morris, the Bard of Whitby Town. In 2018 Tony Morris was walking in a deep valley on the North Yorkshire Moors below some old holes in the valley wall, said to be old coal pit entrances, when he found a stone tablet depicting what he thought to be the head of a Roman Soldier but was mystified as the face wore a beard. Some weeks later he was listening to Melvyn Bragg;s programme on BBC Radio 4 on Mithraism. At this point Tony Morris realised that what he had seen depicted on the tablet was a Mithraic image, a head not wearing a Roman helmet but a head wearing a Phrygian Cap. This, together with the name 'Cato' not being uncommon in Northumberland, inspired Tony Morris to write 'Cato's Tale'.
