I see a lot of Catra's pov in this because Adora really does look happy and healthy, but I think Adora feels the exact same way about Catra, because she's suffering under the weight of her hero's complex, being responsible for a literal kingdom, and has to see that her best friend really doesn't care about hurting her. To her, it looks like Catra's having a grand old time, becoming leader of the Horde. They could both sing this song to each other, because they both pretend to be strong in front of their greatest weakness.
Agreed! Adora is struggling with a lot and only sees Catra when she is bossing everyone around or distracting her, showing her confidence. Adora is left with her thoughts of why Catra didn't come with her, the guilt of her leaving the Horde... She left her friends, Shadow Weaver and her whole childhood behind to be a "glorified soldier". She thinks love is conditional and with her leaving, Catra's love is over. I can only imagine the amount of guilt when Adora allows herself to enjoy anything. Probably that's why she always overworked herself.
The way I see it: first verse is Catra’s POV (adora moved on, working on herself), second part is Adora’s POV (Catra getting everything she wants, career taking off). ‘Maybe I’m too emotional, but your apathy’s like a wound in salt’ is Adora again, ‘maybe I’m too emotional, or maybe you never cared at all’ is Catra
Looking back at Catra's POV, she suffered almost as much as Adora. Maybe even more. They promised each other to always look out for each other, but then Adora left her to join Glimmer and Bow. That's great and all, but Catra probably felt betrayed and abandoned, therefore wanting revenge. I really feel bad for Catra. She just wanted her friend back :(
yeah I do feel bad for catra but it doesn’t really excuse her actions. I still think adora suffered more. She gave everything for everyone else, and was still willing to give up her future for everyone else. She lost her best friend because she saw the horrors the hoarde committed and couldn’t stay, then had to deal with the responsibility of the world on her shoulders, feeling guilty, and basically suffering. But the difference is when catra suffered she took it out on others, whereas when adora suffered she tried to be better and help others.

@@mei_aihara7478 shadow weaver abused adora too, just more subtly. She made adora have to grow up too fast and made adora feel like she was only worth what she could give to others. Adora felt immense guilt as she felt responsible for catra. adora gave catra like 50 chances? Adora had to earn the trust of her friends? Yeah she lost people, but adora gave her a choice to better herself and she refused.
They arent actually together for any of these scenes cuz these r all from season 1 to 4 (SPOILER ALERT) they get together in season 5 when catra has a redemption arc
They weren'nt in a relationship in any of these scenes. they were just having war in the most relationship-ish way- They grew up in a bad environment. Catra was always mistreated compared to Adora and their other teammates. Adora was her only best friend and they promised as kids that they'd always look out for each other, so of course, after Adora left her for some strangers, she was upset. like really upset. thing is, it would've been a lot better for Catra, the rebellion, and maybe the whole planet if Catra just joined Adora in the rebellion, but for some reason, Catra just didn't wanna leave and that lead to them constantly thinking about each other, some say flirting, with each other during the war. I feel like the reason Catra didn't wanna leave the horde is because she grew up there with mostly bad memories, and she wants to prove herself to them and come out on top as like some sort of revenge. she wants to prove herself to- well, herself. maybe. idk. that just a theory. now about the "dysfunctional" part, they're just really troubled in these scenes. Catra has been going through a lot of stress with the horde, since shes like hordaks second in command now, yeah, well that didn't turn out how she wanted. plus, shes still got a lot of issues with Adora. And Adora's been really stressed too. its like- Imagine, you grow up raised to be a soldier, you get promoted, fall into a bush, find a sword that changes your whole life in a snap, suddenly you have such a big responsibility and you haven't even fully fit in, or you still don't know much. Then you have to go to war with your life long best friend, well, ex best friend. Then you have this hope that she'll turn around but then she acts like ya'll were nothing, and she doesn't seem to care about anything but herself, and that hurts. then, you find out your whole life is a lie, your an alien, so much more info to take in, overwhelming, right? then one of your new best friends lose a parent, and that parent trusts you to watch over her daughter and you have a new responsibility to be her knight in shining armor, but shes too stubborn, the world, no, the UNIVERSE, is on the brink of extinction. aka death. and your the only one who can stop it. blah blah blah, a whole lot more drama. so as you can see, stressing, right? but they truly care about each other, always have. they've just been through so much and they're troubles, and confused. so yea. also some people say its a toxic relationship but i think otherwise, but i respect their opinion, ppl can think what they want.
imo, this song is perfect for them. the first verse would be catra's pov, "good for you looks like you moved on pretty easily, found a new girl and it only took a couple weeks" like how adora left her for ppl she met a few hours earlier, seeing adora so happy with her new friends and being such a hero and stuff, meanwhile verse two would be adora's pov, "well good for you looks like your getting everything you want, you got a new car and your careers rlly taking off" like how catra became second in command after adora left. "and good for you its like you never even met me" like how catra would just hurt her to get what she wants as if they were never datin- i mean, friends. as for the chorus, adora must see how catra got new friends and a promotion and stuff. while with catra, she sees how adora betrayed her and is living the life meanwhile shes physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted and stuff.
I felt really bad for Catra, she felt pain because Adora decided to leave her for Glimmer and Bow. She feels betrayed and abandoned and shadow weaver is a problem still, she thought Adora was the only one who looked out for her and now she’s alone. Let’s be glad Catra and Adora had a good ending.
