SPOILERS FOR ALL 5 SEASONS!!!
→ It's my time now, I deserve this love,
No it's not just luck, cause I made a sacrifice
I play a constant game of "how many voice overs can I squeeze into a video" and let me tell you I'd put more in if I could sigh I have no self restraint..
The first 50 seconds took 3 weeks. The rest, I did in one day after s5 aired. And I spent around 2 weeks just staring at that blank space there and not having the faintest clue about what to do with it.
A little explanation: I picked this song not because what 'sacrifice' means by default.
I wanted to use it in two ways, kind of contradictiory - at the beginning to say what they sacrified to try to achieve their goals: Catra sacrificing her good side in order to gain power; Adora hurting her friends with her sacrifices not realizing how she has the responsibility to stay, how she can hurt them by becoming a slave to the 'greater good'.
Then comes a turning point when they're forced to face the consequences of their actions. Catra: she hurt people and and has to overcome her fear of rejection in order to grow. Sacrifice her toxic pride to ask for help and affection. Adora: she has to sacrifice her constant desire to put literaly everyone else in front of her own needs. Realize how much it can hurt others in the process. Learn how sacrificing one's self can be the easier way sometimes, and it is harder to chose to fight for what she wants instead. To stay.
So, in a nutshell. Sacrificing their good traits to achieve their goals vs. sacrificing the need to prioritize those goals, to grow and regain the good traits. In the end, they achieve a balance, together.
I'm super into overanalyzing everything if you couldn't tell it by now lmao
I think I needed to write that down for it to make sense for me too.
But yeah, I liked this way of twisitng around the meaning of this word.
Why am I not talking about season 5? This box is not large enough for me. I'd write essays, novels, BOOKS about how perfect it all was. Catra's redemption, Adora's journey, the best friend squad coming together, Bow and Glimmer, yess, Wrong Hordak, protect him at all cost. The music, the costume designs, the voice acting.... The whole thing was funny, heartfelt, angst-filled, well paced, and most importantly about, and made with LOVE. It is everything that I didn't know I could want from a show like this. From any show, any piece of media. For the creators, anyone who took part in creating this: thank you so, very much.

Whoever thought that a nearly 40 year old man as cynical and angry as I am could enjoy a love story in a little girls' cartoon this much. In many ways the entire series was one long love story and it was absolutely an amazing ride. I even feel compelled to write a fanfic which is something I've never considered before. Probably going to be just sugary-sweet, schmaltzy, and sappy fan service but my headcanon epilogue must be written down for my own peace of mind.

I feel like it speaks volumes to how universal the experience of finding and fighting for love is. And a medium, like a children's cartoon, can be restrictive, but if a show is this well built up and paced and executed, the story itself can be as impactful as any hollywood/indie movie or award winning book. The fact that they put so much love, effort and caring into it shows, and it makes their journey stick with us even well after we finish watching. I'm just... still floored that it actually happened

@@Staykid92 I can share a link once I finish up. I'm not exactly doing a breakneck speed though as I've only got about 3,400 words so far. Based upon ideas that keep coming up it seems to be getting longer and longer and it feels like I'm just getting warmed up. I wanted to get Bow's dads to at least get a cameo somewhere but didn't know what to do. If I just awkwardly shoved them in it'd feel like I was being patronizing and while this is pure sugary happy sweetness, I didn't like want to feel like I was insulting the reader. I wanted them to at least get a paragraph or two with a, "cute couple," moment. I came up with something good though IMO and fits PERFECTLY into the story. Still need to work out Perfuma and Frosta though. Frosta's the toughest as her child-worship of Glimmer will likely fade as she gets older. Since that was a huge part of her character early on I need to come up with something a little deeper.

Yeah I think the only real difference is that mara told adora she never wanted to be a hero and just wanted what she already had friends and family but she was desperate for a solution. Catra wanted to know if adora could even fight for herself and not give everything to someone else even at the cost if her life.

Mara's the big sis, Catra's the love. It's interesting that when they talk to adora or push her into thinking about herself, what she wants... They use the style that fits them best (like you said: same message different style).

Ah, it's such a complex and interesting relationship. In the beginning, there was Shadow Weaver and their closeness as siblings despite Catra's jealousy of Adora getting the praise. She ends up clinging to Adora, living vicariously through her to get that praise. She starts to understand Adora like no one else could doing this, and when Adora leaves, she's heartbroken. Now, alone, she tries to get that recognition for herself, thinking that it is the answer to this new hole in her heart, all the while ignoring the true qualities she found in Adora. She knew only Adora could fill this hole but pushed her away in this delusion that all she needed was recognition. She doesn't see the value of friendship offered by Scorpia to help mend that hole and her growing jealousy of Adora's many new friendships. It took her losing everything to finally figure out that recognition wasn't what she wanted. What she wanted was love and friendship, but in pursuing recognition she pushed those things away until she became truly alone. After searching her soul on Horde Prime's station, she made a commitment then to take her lonely, worthless self who only made enemies out of friends and do one final act of goodness saving Glimmer. Adora saw this act for what it meant when Glimmer told her about it: the childhood Catra she loved was back and in need of her, so she came to save Catra from Horde Prime. Catra, no longer blinded by her sole focus on recognition, used her understanding of Adora's true core qualities to figure out that Adora was shouldering every burden on her lonesome even amongst her friends. She was shutting them out just as Catra had shut out everyone who cared. She knew she was the only one who could reach Adora on a deep enough level to make her realize she wasn't alone, and she did. Dear God that kiss meant so much. It's a beautiful story about how a childhood friendship between adopted siblings was taken for granted and lost. The best part was that it didn't end there, but continued by taking this loss and turning it into a greater awareness of what that relationship really meant to them both. With this realization, the relationship deepened in a way that only death can make known. The worth of a person builds with the time we spend together with them, often without our noticing it. It is with a great suddenness that loss slices into those millions of layers of life to expose the geological happenings beneath. What once we saw as coal turned to diamond when we weren't looking. That's what I love about these stories. They cut deep and find the true value of everything.

I love that because it turnes out that light hope was wrong. She said you have to let go of attachments in order to complete the mission, but in reality if you watch the kids scene, catra says “I got you, I’m not letting go” AND SHES RIGHT BEING SELFISH AND ASKING ADORA WHAT SHE WANTED SAVED THE WORLD BECAUSE SHE DIDNT WANT TO LET GO SHE WANTED TO BE WITH CATRA AHAHAGAH I LOVE SHERA

Man, that heart wrenching twist where Mara tells adora that she doesn’t have to sacrifice herself. Really got me because I was expecting a traditional “chosen one” encouragement speech where she accepts self sacrifice as the only option. But they turned that on it’s head and had adora already committed to it while people tried to tell her that she deserves better.

I've read my fair share of stories where the main character sacrifices themselves to save the day and it almost never sits well with me. Sometimes it's a warranted ending like if the main character was going through a character arc where they had to learn to be a more selfless person, but I'm talking about the kind of heroes who would go through hell and back to keep their friends safe and make sure they're able to save as many people as possible on their journey and then all of a sudden they're totally fine with the idea of letting a good person die as long as it's them? It's like, "What makes you the exception? Push to the very end to make sure EVERYONE gets that happy ending. If the tables were turned and your friends were in that same position you'd fight tooth and nail to the final seconds to keep them safe and you'd be devastated if you failed to protect them. Everyone will be heart broken if you don't come back." I'm so glad that She ra takes that troupe and subverts it, making the statement that "The kind of love and kindness you give to others? You should show that much to yourself as well."

After this show i really noticed that i have never let myself to be loved and perhaps that was because i thought i didn’t deserve that love but i guess everyone deserves to be loved and should allow themselves to receive it because it gets hard man without feeling loved. While watching this show i kinda felt the love between the characters and when i finished the series i had severe anxiety for finishing it. Now i realise the reason for that was because I have never felt what love is, the feeling of it and that i didn’t have it in my life. I am ready to let myself to be loved

How I always saw the ending is that it wasn't Adora or the other princesses who saved the world, it was Catra. Catra has been part of the enemy for this whole show, but here if she didn't let her guard down who knows if she would confess to Adora and kiss her.

This is so gorgeous! I absolutely adore the relationship that these two share. It's complex and interesting, not only a romance but so much more. They went through so much together and separately to finally end up at the same place together again. The build up and tension was there throughout the entire show and their relationship was vital to the story, somthing I feel that many stories don't do as well. The show itself is not a romance but they didn't just add this romance onto the show for the sake of it, instead it was woven into it. And that's what I love, that's what I want. It's not superficial, it impacts the characters and the story in a way that by removing that relationship, it would change the entire story. It was subtle and sweet yet so powerful, impactful and important. That's what love is, and should be in stories that want to have romances. And this video captures their relationship brilliantly 💕

Umm wow okay this is beautifully edited and I almost cried because it captures Catra's feelings so perfectly and Adora's 'never give up' attitude. Their relationship has been through a lot of tests, many that they failed but still only they can define their love and all those quotes were so accurately delivered that it hits just right. This video captures the parallels between their past and present and it is so gut-wrenching and there's so much angst that you can't not want them to end up together cause at last they both deserve it.

I love how this works so well when you include Catra too. Both Adora and Catra deserve the love that they refuse themselves- Catra because she fears reje ction to the point of self-sabotage, and Adora because her love for others drives her to the point of self-sacrifice

This is perfect.. its exactly what I needed to absorb all the valuable lessons that came from this show. Not only was it relatable because cute gay angst but also all the things catra and adora were struggling with that I think we all can relate to in some way. ALSO I watch this video every night before I sleep 🥺 it makes my heart whole

When I tell you this is my absolute favourite video of all time, I truly do mean it! This beautiful ship, the editing, the EMOTIONS. I just finished the show after three days of watching it non-stop and literally had an emotional breakdown afterwards because of how attached I’d managed to get to the characters in such little time - Catra especially. So thank you so much for this masterpiece

... WOW. I absolutely love how you portrayed the parallels in this, it feels like you made the different lines and scenes throughout the series dance so fluidly around one another. Like the sequence of hand grabs at 0:44 that were IN RHYTHM with the music, that was so impressive and awesome. And the transition from the terrifying intensity of corrupted Catra’s forehead poke to the simple playfulness of teen Catra’s forehead poke in sync with that gentle piano chord... my heart. I also love the analysis you wrote in the description! Thank you so much for creating this and sharing it with the world, this is absolutely incredible!!

She-ra is by no means a perfect show. It’s frustrating, rushed at times, and can even be downright problematic. A lot of the reviews I’ve seen are either blindly supportive or ruthlessly critical. But this video...it got me right in the feels. It was so well edited, and the music, choice of scenes, voice acting (seriously, the voice acting in this show is amazing, and deserves more recognition), and parallels are beautiful. All these vibrant, messy, HUMAN moments add so much to this relationship. And if I get a warm, fuzzy feeling and start grinning uncontrollably every time I see the Catradora kiss scene, and - now that I’ve discovered it - when watching this video...doesn’t that mean something? I really, really wanted to like She-ra, and it breaks my heart to see the show getting so much hate (a lot of which I agree with) and this video makes me want to give it another chance. So, thank you, for making this masterpiece.

I just finished my third rewatch of the series, and damn, this hits hard. I really related to Adora's arc, and a bit of Catra's. This video perfectly sums up everything. This is amazing.
