This is absolutely INCREDIBLE footage. Broadway Cats stuff is rare...but stuff this old is even rarer! I presume this means a recording of some kind (besides press/NYPL archives) exists? Thank you so much for sharing.
I had no idea that Terrance Mann played Rum Tum Tugger, but he's brilliant. I saw him play Captain Hook in the UCONN college production of Peter Pan and he was absolutely wonderful.
@Blair Bart II sadly I never got to meet him. But I also saw him in the original revival cast of Pippin. Wish I could have seen him when he was in Beauty and the Beast, from the clips I've seen of him he was wonderful
I saw 'Cats' in San Francisco in the summer of '86 when I was 10, but we got the full original Broadway soundtrack and I'd play it for hours and dance around my living room. It became a part of my soul. These are the voices I grew up with. It's such a treat to see the actual performances! Thank you for uploading these!
I have wanted to see this since Cats was first on Broadway! I was enamored of Terrence Mann when his picture (in full Cats costume) appeared in Life Magazine. For a girl in a small midwestern town that was as close as I could get to Broadway. Thank you so much!
I just discovered your videos and your stuff is FANTASTIC! I work in publishing, so let's just say that I won't ask questions about where it comes from. I wish the NYPL would open its TOFT archive. And I saw this on Broadway in 1984, so I saw Terrence Mann do it live. Unfortunately, we saw it standing, so I never realized how much the costume highlighted his, er, package!
This is amazing footage of this cast ! Thank you very much for sharing 😉👍 Do you possibly have the ' Jellicle Ball ' from this cast and the opening number ' Jellicle Songs' Many Thanks
Thank you so much for this and all you share! If it is possible, would you be able to upload The Awful Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles from the original broadway run? I’d love to see how they used the trap differently (similar to the Growltiger videos)
This is amazing! Thanks so much for posting! We've never seen any clips from the original production before! Do you have Jellicle Songs or The Jellicle Ball?
I mean, I know of course people never really change so logically of course people've been doing this as long as cameras have existed but I still feel kinda like damn people really have been doing this as long as cameras have existed, huh?
It’s Munkustrap and Alonzo I think (Broadway-based Alonzo had a much different design that was more gold and black than his black and white London-based design). But yeah, they’d probably be upset if they saw this lol
My late Mother worked on 4 national touring companies of "Cats", doing wardrobe. I adore Terrence Mann, but this honestly looks amateurish, compared to the companies I grew up watching. The company feel is different.
