Owner: "He, he, this is so cute." Cat: "What the hell is going on here. That's our food. Are we suppose to take it? What is that thing?" Raccoon: "This place is the BEST. Me and the rest of the family are gonna move into the attic tonight."
I used to have a raccoon and a possum come to my house every evening at 7 pm. They became very friendly with myself and my 2 cats and dog. They were never destructive nor did they ever cause a problem. I have had and taken care of many different types of wild animals from hummingbirds to a mountain lion. I can say all animals have different personalities based on what I have witnessed. Even beavers all have their own distinctive personalities. I have seen comments about how destructive they are. I am sure they can be but if you work with them they can be quite a nice addition to the home stead.
We fortunately do not have this issue. We wean the kits when they're ready to become fully independent. It's not in their long-term best interest to depend on human handouts. However while they're young and under our care, they consistently always show up and sit patiently for evening mealtimes.
If that isn't the cutest thing I have ever seen, I don't know what is. Your kitties are indeed met with a challenge, as the dexterity of those human-like raccoon hands are unparalleled. :) Bitsy's interaction with Romeo is adorable.
Very cute!! Very nice video footage!! We get our raccoon, possum and stray cats on our trail cam, we post it on our porch and in our yard. Its very soothing to watch the footage. New friend n subbie here. 🌺🌹🥀
Seems like the cats are a bit more cautious in what you lay down whereas the raccoons don't really care if what you're laying down is actually food or not as long as they get it first.
Once my cat was sitting on a 2nd story window sill overlooking the street. I live in a semi-rural area and a rider on a horse went trotting down the street. My cat, who had never seen a horse before, had this shocked look on her face as though an alien had gone by.
Fyi my mother in-law did this with a squirrel, bad idea! In the summer time when she wasn't home he ate a hole in her screen and entered her house, and a Racoon is a lot smarter than a squirrel. Watch out your home may be invaded one day. lol
What type of cat is the short haired one? Beautiful! And yes I love raccoons too. My giant Maine coon has raccoon buddies and we call them all Rocky. He also has a few skunk babies he’s been herding around to help the momma. I think she’s either had an abnormally large litter or she’s adopted a few as there was a skunk that got hit by a car recently. He also pees in the toilet. Just saying lol
Nikki Kidd wildlife do naturally take to toilet training. The short-haired spotted cat is a Bengal cat. They’re a hybrid cat that’s part domestic bred to Asian Leopard Cats which is a small exotic cat found throughout Asia.
Thanks Shay Alsaid. Raccoons are one of the most difficult wild animals to have as pets. Sincerely... most people are not equipped to raise them nor willing to sacrifice their freedoms to have one for their 17+ years. They only bond with one or two people for their entire lifetimes and will become aggressive if there's any changes in the home (people or pets). One can never travel away for any long period of time because they will not eat for a stranger - the bond is that strong. They cannot be released into the wild if things don't work out, because they are not born with instincts to survive. The reason is that they have a very long maternal period with a mother raccoon who teaches her babies how to forage for survival; releasing a pet raccoon without that knowledge would be a starvation death sentence. Best opportunity to get up close and personal with a raccoon is to volunteer with your local wildlife rehabilitation. It's truly a reward and enriching experience you'll never forget.
I was picking leafs to cook on the porch with my mom and a baby raccoon approached up to us and got really close I was gonna feed it some leafs but mom yelled and he got scared and ran back to his huge mama raccoon in the backyard Lool it was so funny
+Shay Alsaid yah,i used to have a baby racoon there so cut an they make the funniest noises. Although we did kind of have to keep it on the down low cuz there technically illegal. his name was zeek and he was real young when why found him he wasnt a baby he was just young small and ssooooooo cute. ,compared to a human he was like a 4 or 5 years old, he could climb, bite (not that hard) and even grab things . He was under our neighbors car actually and he was all by himself,. we put him in a cage and let it outside four a few hours just in case the mother might show up but it didn't, so we kept it, it was at the age were it was super cute but it was still pretty dangerous. Since 1 in 4 racoon's are said to have rabies we waited a week or 2 to see if it showed any signs of like for example if it couldnt swallow water or was afraid of it that would mean he had rabies. and we found out it didn't so we could pick him up and play with him. Although the first few days we kept him in the cage cuz like i said the rabies thing and because it was aggressive but it got used to us. Zeek would literally come on my bed every time i would go to sleep. one time i locked him out of my room cuz he was waking me up and it was kind of hard to do because my door couldnt shut all the way so i would have to put a basket in front of it to keep it mostly shut, anyways he climbed half way up the side of the door making hilarious noises and reaching his little fingers through the side of the door trying desperately to get in. so of course i let him in and then he just crawled on my bed so cute. but sadly we only had him for about a month before the little guy accidentally bit my little cousin. When she was feeding him potato chips zeek accidentally bit her on the finger just hard enough to make her bleed but it wasnt serious it was just like a little prick basically. but her mom (also my cousin but like way older) panicked and eventually called the police or animal control because she thought it might of had rabies. so they came over took zeek away. and sadly they killed him to make sure if he had rabies wich was stupid because not only did we tell them he didnt because he could drink water and he acted perfectly normal, but they shouldnt have to kill it to see if it has rabies. the only reason they even killed it was because it was cheaper and easier then putting it asleep and doing multiple tests , and because they said the rabies can stay in the body for weeks before it shows but if that was true then why wouldnt they put down dogs and cats to test for rabies. i dont no its just makes me sad all in all racoons are such intelligent animals they deserve to live as much as a dog or cat. (he looked exactly like the racoon from this video : Baby Racoon and Baby cat, on youtube he was even cuter though wich says a lot cuz that one is pretty damn cute) mine just had a cuter looking face lol
Feeding raccoons is not a good thing to do. My girlfriend fed raccoons from her 2nd floor apartment. Soon a whole family of raccoons showed up. One night about 2 am she heard them on her balcony tearing the place apart. They destroyed her screen door trying to get in. They can also tear your face off. They have long sharp claws. Keep your cats away from them!
joanne jones, feeding wildlife also teaches them to depend on humans for handouts which ultimately sets them up for failure when the food no longer is available. This is one of many reasons why we wildlife caretakers don’t recommend feeding raccoons. They’re very curious and when they learn of a food source they will go to great lengths to keep acquiring it. The raccoons in our videos are rescues that are rehabbed for wild release. They’re not aggressive to our cats nor us.
Only one Bengal in the video, the other two are a Maine Coon and an Abyssinian/tabby mix. There are Bengal cat breeders located all over the world. Visit TICA.org to locate one nearby you.
Fortunately we've conditioned all of the raccoons who have visited over the years in a manner where they have no interest to break into our home and do our best to keep them fearful of strangers. Thank you for sharing your comment. We like hearing people's thoughts as well as their experiences as each appear to be all unique unto their own.
Raccoon: I have hands with functioning thumbs and see with my hands, what can you do. Cat: wait for my slave to feed me and take unreasonabley long naps. Raccoon: oh, that's probably why you have so much fat on you.👌
While it's "cute" in the eyes of some people, it's not wise to feed a wild animal as they will pretty much live there. Depending on the breed of cat, most will avoid a Racoon but not my male tomcat. He is a large Maine Coon who weighs about 35 pounds and that's not being fat, but simply being such a large cat. He has killed a Racoon that broke into my home when a thunderstorm knocked a tree branch and broke one of my basement windows. So a Racoon got in while I was sleeping and I found the corpse the next day near Tango's (my cat's name) food bowl. While smaller cats won't challenge a Racoon or lose but a large Maine Coon tomcat can easily rival or exceed the size of wild Bobcats. So it was an easy win for Tango who I took to the vet right away to have him tested. Fortunately, the Racoon didn't have any dangerous diseases and Tango is up to date on his shots too. Tango only had a few bloody cuts, nothing major. I guess his thick fur helped him a lot since it was winter at the time, so his fur is twice as thick compared to the warmer months.
Typically not unless the raccoon is protecting her offspring or is sick. There are plenty of videos on RU-vid that shows cats and raccoons existing together with little or no conflict.
...though just watch as, one night, someone living at that house wants a breeze at night, leaves a window open a little too wide, and the next morning their kitchen has been raided and thereby trashed.
Raccoons are known to carry rabies in some parts of the United States. My big old cat used to back the raccoons out of my front yard in Oklahoma. After I became aware of this interaction he became an inside only cat.
It is quite true that rabies is found in various regions all over North America. Fortunately, we reside in one of the few regions along the western coast that hasn’t gad any documented raccoon rabies for over three decades. It’s quite rare in general in the region. Having the opportunity to rehab the raccoons so we are privy all the public health dept info on dangerous zoonotic diseases.
We fortunately don't have this problem, but then it helps having experience working with various wildlife species as well as understanding the animals behaviours.
um you do know that cats have hands even though their toes are shorter they can use their front feet to grab stuff and many known as polydactaial have an opposible thumb or I belive they call a dew claw, they are very capable of grabbing things I would say much more so then dogs, and are expert climbers, a coon might be mean but dont underestimate a cat.
manga12 All land/air vertebrae have hands, so even pigeons(wings are hands) can grab things, its the variety of grabbable things that differ. Im pretty sure there arent many things in the world that cats can actually "take" they use claws to fixate a target (trees yes, or better yet - furniture.) Cats make excellent furniture climbers, i cant do that.
Keep feeding them and you'll be sorry, dude. You won't get rid of him. He could contract Rabies and infect you, your kids, or your cats. I'm speaking from my trapping days' experience.
As stated in the description, the raccoons reside in a region where there's been no documented rabies for over 25 years. Additionally, we have experience working with wildlife to ensure that conflict with property, humans and pets are not problematic.
When you freaks deside to kiss around on a raccoon keep in mind they are very destructive my friend out east encountered a nest of them in her parents home and they totally destroyed the wiring in it don't be fulled by their cuteness
Wild animals are opportunists. It is people who are at fault - not the raccoons - who habituate raccoons to food or fail to secure their home properly when it's time for them to have babies. We're fortunate we work with wildlife so we know how to manage them and educate people how to live in harmony with all wildlife species.
+aGradeDubstep Why are you such a shit? Calling someone fat and ugly is going wayyy over the line, you going out of your way to to verbally abuse someone just shows how much of a degenerate you are. I can't even...
My outdoor cat won the fight with a raccoon but so far my vet bill is three thousand dollars and will likely end up being twice that much. Her jaw is broken in several places, lacerations inside of mouth and roof of mouth, and a deep puncture at the back of her tongue. The vet said she won because she did not have puncture wounds on her body.
Bev1946, what a brave girl but how heartbreaking what she must’ve endured. Wildlife and domestic pets unfortunately are mostly not safe. Wildlife will always savagely defend their territory, food or young. Sending your girl heaps of healing well wishes.
Most baby raccoons are mature at 4-5 months but frequently will remain with their mother through the winter and set out on their own in the spring when they are about a year old. However, these three unfortunately lost their mother early and were unable to independently forage. We rehabbed them until they were a year old.
neither will win if someone has rabies, and yes, rabies is still around, if you are that ignorant, you should not own an animal....I do not care what you're response is, this is just stupid. There has been no documentation of a dog in my neighborhood being hit by a car in 25 years, that doesn't mean Its fine for him to play in traffic..
