"It feels like I am the default parent when it comes to the kids" The man stated he was in the middle of a big project at his "firm". What type of firm is this? A law firm? A business meeting? There is no context given here and considering that he is probably working the more lucrative job, it makes more sense for her to go pick up her son with the fever than him because the family would lose out on more money for the household. Saying that she feels like the default parent is nonsense because the father is contributing the same if not more than the mother is. Men work long hours for more money and it's for the family's benefit and men are willing to work longer hours. Women on average do not want to work longer hours and want more free time for themselves. Remove the father from the picture altogether, like he died or something, all of the sudden caretaker and bread winner fall on the mother. She doesn't know how good she has it. She is choosing to have a job, he is not choosing to have a career...he HAS to have one.

Fully agree with this as a man. When you're in a marriage you're supposed to be a team player and working to support your team. You own each other. Simple as that.

He doesnt have to have a career, if they can work on one income then only one of them is required to. I’d like to see how he handles it if she was dead. He’d be thinking about how good he had it before. Ps, it’s proven worth research that women do more (work plus most household responsibilities). If you are married it might be useful to you to inquire within yourself as to why this conversation triggers your defenses so much…

They chose to have kids together, so the man needs to take on half the labor with the kids. It’s that simple, not sure why men have such trouble understanding this. If that means he needs to find a new job that works better with his highest responsibility, raising a family. they could downsize etc to make this possible. The alternative is taking advantage of his wife, instead of being a partner to her… completely ruining the relationship and breaking apart his family…all because he thought work was the most important thing in his life. It’s not.
