Hairfall after Bariatric Surgery -
Does Hairfall after Bariatric Surgery really exists?, what is the reason? and what are the solutions?
Hair fall after bariatric surgery is a genuine problem.
Hair fall after bariatric surgery is completely different from a male pattern baldness. A male pattern badness or male baldness happens because of absence of hair root follicles and a hormone called as testosterone is involved in that. Whereas, minor hair fall which happens after bariatric surgery is not because of the absence of the hair root or the follicles but it is just because of some nutritional issues and stress related to hair fall.
The hair fall after bariatric surgery is not as severe, not as permanent as hair fall in male pattern baldness. In fact, it is very easily treatable.
Why hairfall happens after bariatric surgery?
Hair fall after bariatric surgery happens because of two reasons -
1. Stress - any condition where you lose weight is a stressful condition. All of us have stress in life and when we lose weight over it it's a stressful situation. The hormonal milieu of the body and the stress hormones may cause some hair fall and that's natural but not permanent.
2. Nutritional Deficiency - Hair fall after bariatric surgery can be nutritional. When the body lack multivitamins, body suffers from multiple vitamin deficiencies. Due to this, there can be hair fall and that is what happens after bariatric surgery.
Treatment for hairfall after bariatric surgery -
Most patients who have minor hair fall will gain a lot of benefit after this treatment. The first treatment is reduce the stress, this is not a permanent condition, this is not like male pattern baldness you are going to have a better hair in future.
Take good amount of multivitamins proteins one gram per kg of body weight and antioxidants as prescribed by your bariatric surgeon. If you take good care of your diet which include good amount of multivitamins antioxidants and proteins the hair growth will be good.
