Here's my reaction to one of the many videos where this super popular RU-vidr claims to be diving inside a cave. Spoiler alert: he's not.
I was originally going to ignore this video because I already reacted to a video from another RU-vidr calling Hospital Hole a Cave so I just left a comment on his video sharing some of my thoughts and concerns, and he just went ahead and deleted my comment...so here we are.
Original Video: • Exploring 130ft DEEP C...
Here's the Gear we dive with: kit.co/divetal...

Brandon Jordan has more money than sense. His you tube stardom want due to his being a good diver, it’s due to his ability to trick people into clicking on his videos as you said earlier Gus. It’s sad that so many blindly follow tubers like this. My son and I want to learn to dive. My son started watching this character and was reporting back to me with all this cool information. I said who is this dive god and low and behold he’s said, Brandon Jordan. I did 5 min worth of research and told my son that BJ was not a real diver and listening to him would ultimately get us both badly hurt or dead. Anyway, thank you Gus, for setting things straight. I had my son watch this video and he now fully understands the negative impact BJ could have in a new diver. This is very dangerous and careless of him. I applaud you Gus, for having the insight and courage to let people like my son and I to learn and know what this character fails to do. I don’t believe he is certified in anything other than you tube and maybe shallow water iPhone and sunglasses recovery. Thanks again Gus!!

That channel used to show up all over my RU-vid feed and ever since I found this one, I didn't even need the reaction video to realize that he's click bait. He lured me in with the finding guns in the river but when he went on to overly dramatize all the titles of his videos, he lost my attention. You called it. He's dangerous, because someone without knowing anything about diving might try "cave" diving.. I never realized how technical scuba diving is. I am obsessed with these dive videos now and its now my goal to learn how to dive one day.

Yeah, when the magnet fishing and diving in creeks finding guns and stuff blew up, I watched a few from different channels but it was all overly dramatic and click baity. Didn't have much thought about becoming a diver besides thinking "that'd be cool" til I found Dive Talk. Dive Talk isn't my usual cup of tea on YT, but I've started binge watching and looking into becoming a commercial diver. I don't watch these click baity videos, but glad I can watch Dive Talk react to them so I can learn a thing or two without giving click bait channels an extra view! It's my version of reality TV! My favorite was when Jordan visited our local quarry (Gray Quarry near Kingsport, TN) and made two videos from his dives there. It was a big deal to everyone at the quarry and I guess it was kind of cool at the time. But then when the videos made it to RU-vid and we saw them for the first time I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the horrible titles. Lost airplane found in abandoned quarry? I wanted to grab the guy and scream "come on!" Abandoned?! It's a dive destination with entry fees and infrastructure, etc. We even had a huge event around the sinking of that plane. Local shops and clubs were welcomed to add their stickers to the plane before sinking. Really turned me off of the guy's work. Shortly after that I did cheekily produce my own video and called it 'Deep and Dangerous!' where we install an underwater communication device in that quarry... (We plugged in a cell phone and cell phone charger into an outlet on the houseboat at 70 ft deep 😁🤣).

@@nrvdiver2747 I think DallmyD and Jordan both have done the same thing with their descriptions of Orange Grove Sink at Peacock Springs. I love how one of them edited the videos to NOT show the stairs as they jumped from the karst ledge at the edge of the water, claiming it was some "hidden sinkhole in the woods" - meanwhile, it's one of the world's top three cave diving destinations and internationally known. LMAO

I can't stand click baiters! Especially when it about something that isn't taken seriously can result in injury or worse. From my understanding cave diving and diving is relatively safe, IF you know what your doing and know how the equipment works. If you dont know how to dive or dont know how the equipment works please dont go lower than 50ft until you are certified. I almost drowned in the ocean this kinda pissed me off I won't lie. I worked as a Gold Dredger in Nome Alaska for a year dredging up some Gold from the ocean floor in the 1st Atmosphere. I used a FFM when I would work for 4-5hrs underwater and when your working with a 10-12 inch in Diameter hose and stirring up sand and especially when Bad weather would hit, on Good days, your Vis would be like maybe 1-2ft, most days your vis was maybe 5-6 inches while working the sea floor. Add complete darkness * I worked the night shift * and almost zero vis, That is what I would call * murky * conditions lol, that water was so crystal clear that he was diving in lol.

I dove Hospital Hole recently with a buddy after a day of heavy thunderstorms. The surface was so tannic, the only way we knew we were even IN the hole itself was when our computers hit the mid-high teens in feet of depth and we hadn't struck the river bottom yet and the hydrogen sulfide cloud was already present at 27 feet. Called the dive at 32 feet when I couldn't see any part of my buddy except the face of his dive light, and had to come back to the surface to tell which direction the boat was along the shore.... and these fools think they had "bad" visibility lmao

Hi Gus. One thing I think you miss in this video and possibly the most dangerous component is that Jordan is wearing a Co2 inflatable pfd made by hyde. His bcd is over the inflatable pfd. If he accidentally pulls that white triangle on his left chest it will activate the Co2 cylinder and inflate the pfd an he will skyrocket to the surface at high rate of speed. This can kill a diver even if they are diving within non deco limits. Super dangerous!

Gonna be honest, guys. I did something extremely dangerous the other day. I ride motorcycles a lot. Normally, I ride in a safe manner. But I got cocky. I accelerated to breakneck speeds of over 15 miles per hour. Nobody has ever been this fast before. I wasnt sure what would happen. Would I reach the speed of light? Would the human body simply explode? I was going so fast that i could feel the air itself as it rushed past me. I had a brief moment of clarity where I realized I may not make it out alive. Thankfully my motorcycle is equipped with brakes and I was able to slow down instead of being stuck at such insanely dangerous speeds forever. Stay safe.

The order to put on an Ocean Reef FFM is first the middle straps, then the bottom straps and finally the ones in top and you will not pull them very far. Having said that, it is a great mask providing great comfort.

Here where I live, north Alabama- we get a lot of leaf debris and stuff like that which falls on the water and in some places it will all eventually go to bottom and rot. The if the water at bottom is cold enough and the pressure high enough it will sort of trap the gas along bottom. As the water warms during the dog days of summer the gases begin to expand- you start seeing these big humps coming up off bottom- looks like a pile of leaves or something but it's not. These will eventually burst- they're like big bubbles- and when they do a bunch of mud and leaves and little sticks and stuff get belched up off bottom- and it smells like rotting eggs or sewage- disgusting. It can kill the fish when it happens to- usually they just move off to better water but, if they don't have anywhere to go- like in a small pond or something, it can kill them.

Hey Gus, need your opinion, I have a Naui advanced cert with all my scuba gear, I have not used my equipment for over 10 years, before I used the equipment I had it all checked out etc. for me to start using the equipment again, I would take it to shop and retest the equipment ? What is your best advice to get back into diving again.

Watching your videos recently I sort of wish I still dove commercially would have be cool to make some videos during some of my inspection dives. Booked a little recreational dive next weekend looking forward to it nothing fancy bottom out at 42 meters but not been in the water for almost 2 years so want to ease myself back in 🙂. On selling gear I sold a bunch of my gear only thing I kept was my BCD and my regulators because I love them 😆 was all open water gear I sold but still ask for at least one certification before selling it to the buyer I'd hate someone to get into trouble because they didn't know how to use gear that I sold them

I use to swim a lot in my local river pools. I would search the bottoms for random things, found a lot of loose jewelry. In an effort to get to as close to the bottom I adapted to swim in trim, an it became my primary way of swimming. Watching your guys videos makes me more interested in diving each video. Maybe it's time to find some good classes.

My Granny had a pond on her farm. She told everyone that it was made out of a sinkhole and that the sinkhole continued to get bigger . This was YEARS ago. I've been back in the last year or so to visit her homestead. Sure enough the pond has grown from a small pond into a very large pond! She also told us not to swim in it because the sinkhole would suck is into it. Of course, we didn't listen, and always snuck into the pond when she wasn't looking. We are all alive and well😂😂😂 P.S.....This sinkhole pond was not clear, it was worse than chocolate milk!

Ive got a question. You mention often that you're fine to spend 5 minutes at 130ft before ascending without having to make stops. Question: assuming you've just spent your 4-5 minutes down there, to what depth must you ascend, and for how long, before you can return to that ~130ft area for another 5 min without deco?
@DIVETALK
@DIVETALK 3 года назад
You go to the surface, complete a surface interval, and then you can go back down eventually to 130 ft...but not on the same dive.
@Leo532141974
@Leo532141974 3 года назад
The depth you must ascend to is the surface! There are formulas and computer programs that help a diver calculate how long the wait needs to be before doing another dive to depth without requiring decompression time in the water. In the case of a 5 min dive at 130 feet you would only require 3 minutes at the surface before you could do another of the same depth and time. But if you did it a third time you would need to wait 10 minutes before safely doing it again, and the surface time increases greatly with each additional dive. Bottom line is that calculations and data are required to know what is safe before the dive begins.

I lost a weight belt last summer spearfishing at a lake with a very silty bottom. It was brand new and wanted to get used to its quick release buckle in case i need to drop my weights for any reason. I un-buckled it close to the bottom and watched it vanish in a poof of silt as I floated up to the surface. Later I went back to look for it but even with a one meter stick in my hand I couldn't feel a solid bottom despite using my whole arm + the stick to reach below the silt. I usually dive in the sea, not lakes, so I had never seen silt like that. Felt pretty dumb afterwards.

I was a good swimmer in school, but I found that when I started snorkeling that I stopped using my arms. It felt natural to just kick with fins.

This might be a stupid question, but do you have to be horizontal to be in good trim? I ask because there might be situations where you want to be in vertical position if you are exploring along a vertical wall and want to relieve the strain on your neck. I'm not a diver so if this question doesn't make sense, please go easy on me.
@DIVETALK

No need to be vertical unless you are going down a chimney or something, and even in those cases you are better off going head first

Poor Gus, I can _feel_ your distress and frustration with these types. If I may comfort you...Don't worry, for 2 reasons: 1) It is much better to have an audience of the intelligent (which is, naturally, always smaller.) 2) Most of the audience for _his_ type of channel - is there to make fun of it. Reality TV show popularity proves time and time again - Millions of people will tune in to watch *The Adventures of the Stupid.* 😂
