Ashamed to say this is my intro to Cave In - and gotta say I'll be digging into their discography now. This is a really solid album that's been in heavy rotation for me. Tons of variety and musicianship to dig into here.
Don‘t beat yourself up about that. There were times at the turn of the century, when they were more reminiscent of a boyband, than a rock band. That you don‘t ever heard about them...they did this to themselves.
Ain't it Great? Check out Mutoid Man's "War Moans". You'll Cream in Reverse and Cry. But you were Head-Banging the whole time, and found a Partner, a Deck of Smokes, a 6-Pack, a Joint, and a Mission.
I hear a lot of sounds from their earlier releases of their massive catalog, and none of these other bands people seem to want to latch on to them. Brilliantly composed, great sound, big replay value! RIP Caleb
oh man - this band continues to satisfy - last time I heard a new album from them was 'Antennae' (forgive my misspelling) - What a gift this is - to hear this band in all its power, once again - I love the difference in this album versus the last - This band is like a raw habanero pepper - it will kill you, but let you live if you accept the taste - yep, a JDK original quote - you're welcome. Love this band.
I'm a little over 20 minutes in. Surprised I never heard of these guys before this is pretty good. I thought they were a new band. Turns out they came out right around the time MTV stopped playing rock videos so that pretty much explains that because radio has been a wasteland since the pop punk nu metal rap rock and post grunge genre's emerged as well defined genre's around that time too and it basically became impossible to find the cool kind of heavy alternative music that I was into and not some nu metal red state rap rock garbage or some lame lame lame pop punk band. I'll have to check out the rest of their stuff.
There's a big Soundgarden vibe throughout the whole record, and that is a very good thing. As we say in France "C'est une grosse dinguerie" ("This is a big madness")
I'm also hearing a BUNCH of other influences. Alice in Chains on one song. Mastodon on others. Occasionally some southern stoner rock like Down, the Sword, etc. What an album!!!!
This is officially my favorite Cave In album. And for me, that is a huge claim. It’s like they distilled the best of everything they’ve done in their career into one perfect expression of Cave In-ness
Maybe I should check them out then. I was keen when that first song started, but the rest just sounds like radio pop rock to me. Nothing wrong with that, but someone recommended this to me as a "great metal album" :/
@@ashchaya7676 If this is what radio pop rock sounded like, I'd be pretty goddamn happy. The current stuff on the charts is so weak. Regarding OP, I had no interest in Killing Joke until you said this sounds like them, so I'll have to check it out at Mystic Festival next week.
Simlply their best album... after Jupiter of course! P.S. Idiot Pilot 2019 comeback - 10/10, Porcupine Tree 2022 comeback - 10/10 and now Cave In 2022 comeback - 10/10!!! Yeeeessssss)))))
You gotta check out their old stuff. Until Your Heart Stops is incredible, and then on their next album Jupiter they went with almost no screaming but it's also incredible. Big Riff is one of my favorite songs ever (and the title is appropriate, that riff is huge). Perfect Pitch Black has a lot of cool stuff on it too. They've never done a bad record, but they've ranged from very metal to very 90s alternative rock and they do it all incredibly well.
Just found out about these guys. Feel like I've been asleep at the wheel... this is the best Rock album I've heard in a very long time. Solid front to back. One of the few, especially in recent times, that you can push play and let it run. Extremely happy that the algorithm came through for me on this one...
It's good. Reminds me of the stuff I've heard from Torche, Hum, and Shiner recently. Heavy, shoegaze-y, atmospheric, solid lyrics and a lead singer with a pretty decent voice.
I heard this band for the first time around two weeks ago and have had new reality stuck in my head every day since. Keep the good stuff coming bois. Yeew
