Kinda wish this level was kept in. One, seeing the bottom of the island was always on my checklist of "awesome places I wish I could go in Cave Story" as a kid, and two from a gameplay and story perspective it's perfect if it went before last cave hidden. Gameplay-wise because it gets the player ready for the insanity of last cave hidden and blood stained sanctuary, and story-wise because its right after the low point of the story and would be a great motivator to have a chance to save curly. Saving curly before last cave hidden is of course still in the game, but its more satisfying to adventure to the bottom of the island than do fetch quests tbh.
I think it had something to do with the game's length. It was supposed to be after Hell, but at that point of the game we've already had 3 dungeons(Laberynth(whatever the fuck is spelled), Last cave and Hell), so it made sense Pixel didn't want to overload the difficult and time of the final course
@Hardrian_Hardrada_Cicero no? He litterally just didn't understand how to incorporate it. It was confirmed BY PIXEL HIMSELF that Balrog would have taken curly there to make clones, but Balrog really doesn't want to hurt curly/quote, he's just having fun. He even HELPS them in labyrinth. It just doesn't have a good spot in game.
Uh, all that stuff was explained on the game. Ballos corruption was caused by the king of the kingdom where he lived tortured him, because the people there loved him more than their king. The other robots were killed by the mimigas after they ate the red flowers. Misery forced Ballos to create the Demon Crown, and Ballos cursed her to be the servant of whoever owned the Crown. Arthur was killed by the doctor. Qoute and Curly were sent to the island to destroy the Crown.
One of the greatest soundtracks from one of the greatest videogames I have ever played. Cave Story will always be in my heart as one of the most fun games I've ever played...
I think it would be better to have a Cave Story prequel than a sequel. Where you could experience Quote and Curly's first mission in the island, trying to destroy the Demon Crown and the fight against Miakid.
At first I thought it was Ice Fortress, so I imagined Quote falling through a hole into the island to an underground Fortress of Ice which was used as a base for the Soldiers from the Surface and that there would be robots there still walking around, protecting an area once forgotten.... but if they were underground it wouldn't make sense ehhh? Soldier from the Surface. Now I think of a hidden base up in the mountains, where the wind blows eternally.
this, Gestation and Moonsong are my favorite songs in Cave Story. Gimme the 3ds remake and ill be happy because of Wind Fortress making it into the game!
This song made me want to graft Wind Fortress into my Cave Story fanfiction, even if it is a crossover and 007 is the only one to set foot in there. In this one, it's the power supply to the island.
I'd love a sequel if Pixel were making it for the same reason he made the first game, and that's to create a work of art that will be appreciated by gamers worldwide for years to come. But you're right, I wouldn't want it any other way.
What I hope to see is a prequel. Hopefully the same style, just set earlier. Maybe we could play as Arthur. You know, the hero of Minigma mentioned at the beginning of the game. It would be cool to see the last holder of the crown and Quotes failed mission to destroy it from his perspective. Perhaps Arthur even met Qoute and helped in in his mission. An interesting idea to say the least.
Of all the song that could've been removed from the game... Why this? And shush with the "Oh, Wind Fortress is a thing in Cave Story +" I KNOW THAT. But still. Also, I think, the idea for Wind Fortress would've been much better if Pixel kept it like he was originally intending it for the game. Dark.
@@ryannixon4138 not really, i think? i am pretty sure it's position in the track list of old versions of ORGView imply that it was between grasstown and sand zone
My thoughts exactly. There would be no way to make a sequel without changing the timeline or making the story completely different, to the point where he might as well call it something else.
Long time no see, i fell really nostalgic about this song oh my... that's literally from my childhood i can't forget as well, i'm really sure i heard for the first time somewhere in SMW ROMHACK that's absolutely incredible!!!!
I figure, anything after Cave Story chronologically would have a completely different setting if using the same characters, some new menace, no Demon Crown, Mimigas are still near extinction, maybe the new story would deal with finding them a new home in some other cave-like area. Before Cave Story there's at least three other Crown bearers, lots of pre-existing plot to rehash what we know, and though it would make a nice story to flesh out in a gaiden, there's better ways to take this game.
Game starts with quote on a production line somebody shows him how to use his weapons (New ones!). The story is based around a war for the "Demon crown" That the minimigas are protecting. Also after the final boss Quote is destroyed in a suicide explosion. Then "You feel something pulling on you as you black out" ------CREDITS ROLL-------
@MindH4cker On VGMusic, someone submitted a MIDI, using Anvil Studio or a freeware notation software, you could probably get the sheet music out of the MIDI.
I found "Jenka's nightmare" not bad, it's a sequel to the good ending. There are many versions of this mod because it was an unfinished mod but someone finished it and called it "jenka's nightmare revived", but there's also an other guy finishing the original mod (not completed yet). Some other mods are good too but sometimes it doesn't fit too well with the original CS ambiance, or just sometimes the story is too weird.
"Wind fortress"? The only place I can think of that might match that description is the final area, where you fight the doctor and the core. Perhaps there was originally meant to be far more to that place than just a series of boss fights? This music has a tone of finality to it, and I can hear references to a couple of other songs from the game, so it'd fit quite nicely.
@dudejack5 Nobody knows. If so, Pixel may have to make another story, location, and character, since either ending after the Undead Core boss fight ends up leaving the island. However, some characters, such as Sue, Itoh, and Misery, can appear in that sequel. And another villian that poses a bigger threat, even bigger than the Doctor or Ballos. Either way, it depends.
It would actually be a lot easier this time around. First off, time constraint? Well, Nicalis is late with everything anyway. No rush. Imagine him doing the graphics, story and music, and then let a group of people program it. Anything Pixel doesn't like would be known and changed, resulting in a fucking amazing sequel to an amazing game. God I hate it when people say "Oh, sequel will ruin such a great game!". Like there was never a good sequel to a game.
Yeah, but now that the fanbase has grown, he's probably given the idea of a sequel more thought. Plus, it's been a long time since Cave Story came out, he could have changed his feelings about a sequel by now.
What if before it was removed, this stage was going to be played after killing the doctor and the island starts falling, and you rescue Curly and head off to Ballos then? Sequence wise it makes no sense I guess, having this be before last cave similar to how you save curly in the canon version makes more sense, however this level was balls hard and I feel like it would be a good buffer of difficulty between the undead core and the last level, much like Last cave hidden was.
Well really that wasn't even what I had in mind. I had an idea where you'd play as Arthur and you would indeed use the red flowers but for only once in the game. Basically you would find out how the mimigas disappeared to the surface and what would truly happen to them after eating the flowers.
Source: Various old interviews He used to constantly say he didn't want to make a sequel. He's only considered it since the major releases (Cave Story Wii, Cave Story 3D) and because people ask for it so much, but he's stated that he thinks it'd be impossible and that he doesn't have the time or resources any more. Most people are pretty sure the "thinking of a sequel" was a mistranslation given all the previous times he said he was never going to make one.
@DeluxeGamer123 It's a matter of opinion, and honestly MY favorite shifts depending on my mood. This is a damn good song, but I think White or maybe Running Hell is my favorite.
@RedBigButton If you buy Humble Indie Bundle 4 for something like $5.50, you get Cave Story+, plus a bunch of other great indie games, and they all come with steam keys.
@SirJamster There's a (possibly sarcastic) remark made at the end of the game (forget by who) that they would definitely not see the Doctor a second and third time. I think this is a pretty obvious allusion to what could be Cave Story 2 and 3 at some point down the line.
