I just realized that in this song he says “Like Snufkin and Little My” after listening to this song for years. I got into the Moominvalley fandom somewhat recently so I was so happy to find out he referenced it in his song (besides of course the songs he wrote for Moominvalley). I was confused at first as to why he said Little My instead of Moomintroll since him and Snufkin are two peas in a pod, but then I realized that Little My is supposed to represent Lemon Boy since they’re both grumpy and bitter and it all made sense.

I am actually working on a story, and I love how well this song relates to them ❤❤❤ A little context, if you please; It goes about a boy, who is mean and distant. He doesn't allow himself to make friends or to be kind while all he craves is being able to be close to someone, cuddle up with someone, be sweet to someone. Then, there's this other boy. He's a nice, outgoing guy who gets along with pretty much everyone. The sad thing is that the reason he gets along with others so well isn't because of his personality, but the way he changes it. He feels as if he needs people to like him, even if it mean they don't like the real him. While being outgoing and nice, he's so incredibly shy that it causes him to be unable to truly bond with people. He's afraid of making others uncomfortable or angry. He's afraid that if people dislike him, he's just genuinely gonna die. So, when these two end up becoming roommates, it's a big relief to both of them. The last boy realizes that he can't please everyone, as the first boy seemed to dislike him before they even met. Though it takes some time for the second boy to realize, and in the meantime, the first boy finds himself oddly touched by the second one's desperate attempts to befriend him. This causes both of them to open up about their true selves. The first boy, always acting mean and rude, realizes that maybe it's not so bad to let people come close. The second boy realizes he needs to be himself, even if it means that others might dislike him for it.

this song reminds me of my dad. no matter how terrible he can be, i’m terrified for the day he dies. i’ve always been a daddy’s girl- no matter how much i try telling myself i’m not. the end of this song reminds me of how scared i am for his death

Idk if there's a place on the internet that explains the real meaning of this song. However, to me, it sounds like either befriending/accepting your demons / bad stuff in your life and making the best of them / it. I wrote a similar song called "same team" about befriending my demons. The song is on spoitfy and the music video is as low budget as it can get - but I still like the meaning. The other thing I can see in this is befriending / accepting the weird kid / homie with depression / other struggles for who they are and giving unlikely candidates a chance. More so the first one - but either way, this song is pretty genius and I have to thank my 12 year old music student for showing it to me =)
