CB Radio for Preppers pt 4 

Cale, thank you for covering the "elephant in the room" on CB radio. I stick to legal limits, too, but the other equipment is out there and it's good to talk about it.

another good argument FOR stock CB radios

besides the extra power from the 10 meter or "export radio" you have 6 to 12 bands of frequencies. We talk 20 to 30 channels below cb ch. 1 , can talk base to mobile 30 + miles, base to base 40 to 60 miles, skip pretty much unlimited, base or mobile.

I've used many many mobile antenna's. There are several good ones. Placement and correct swr / reflection mean as much as the antenna itself. I've always liked Wilson's, 1000, 2000 and the 5000. The Little Wil is the best bang for the buck if you are on a budget and don't run more than a couple hundred watts. 102 inch whip is a great set up if you want to walk thru drive thru's and bang into stop lights. Right now I'm using a sirio 5000 magnet mount and it works as good or better than anything i've ever used. Whatever you get, Set the SWR. Learn about swr and reflection, it has to be good for everything to work as it should ( and not burn up)

I have a super mod general hp 40w that is on cb band and does 220 watts and i run it with a wilson 1000 mag mount

I got an Anytone AT6666 (known as a quad 6) 10/11M about 4 months ago. I put a good antenna on my truck and started listening to CB like I did 20 years ago in high school. The regular AM bands are dead. Literally nobody talks on CB. I've heard maybe 5 minutes total of conversation in the truck in that 4 months. I hear more on the SSB channels, but still hardly nothing. Not sure what I'll do with the radio. I may sell, not sure yet.

I have a technician HAM lisc but others I want to talk to don’t. With antenna and other factors being equal, will a good 50 or 100w HAM radio like an ICOM or YAESU out perform a similarly powered good CB radio? I’m trying to talk base station to base station at about 40 miles.
