The CB90, originally developed by Saab for the Swedish Navy, is a fast military assault craft, which can carry up to 20 troops and cargo, in shallow or open waters.
Three of these combat boats have been donated to the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine to help the country with its defences in the Black Sea.
But what can the CB90 do?

The improvements are analogous to that of an armorered personnel carrier to an infantry fighting vehicle. It went from a transport vessel to one that can transport marines while also having the firepower to provide suppressive fire, infantry fire support, and limited engagement against other vessels.

Some funny comments here. Just because the boat is designated CB 90, it doesn´t mean it was built 30 years ago even if the very first one was. It´s not an uncommon thing to call the latest upgrade/improvment "next generation". Just look at the guns they are demonstrating, is that 1990s design? 🤔
@td6460
@td6460 19 дней назад
It looks like it has a M2 Browning machine gun, which entered service in 1933 and what I think looks like an FN MAG, which entered service in 1958.
@uniformmike05
@uniformmike05 19 дней назад
It was type classified and accepted into service in 1990, that’s where the 90 in the designation comes from. Originally it was armed with three .50cal HMG, two fixed in front of the cabin and one in a rear-deck ring mount. Now they’ve been upgraded with a RWS with a .50cal and an FN MAG. Some also have M134 Gatling guns. The Swedish Marines will also get some with 120mm mortars.

I like that remote weapons station. It would have been nice in Vietnam. On PBRs the enemies plan was always to get the machine gunners first. Especially the bow twin 50s. Nice to see the American M-2 50. It make me wonder how many exist in the worlds' militaries. Apparently Browning knew how to design.

Some thing the Royal Navy could use a fleet of for home waters . However with the development of modular systems like type 31 and Boxer , drone and missile modules would vastly alter the characteristics of this boat. Given the financial restrictions and commitment to nuclear arms, the UK government has to amalgamate our armed forces ,concentration priority with the Navy . So navy larking all round ,airforce and army all under the admiralty. Marines is the future,start growing gills.

These will/ are delivered on trucks, Romania and Bulgaria is two great countries to set them free in their natural habitat. The issue is Ukraine may get delievery of them and start training crews in Sweeden with them. But they will never be used in combat. Why? Turkey. They're blocking any and all vessels that belong to Russia or Ukraine from going through the Dardanelles. This includes the mine sweepers that the UK have given Ukraine. They're fully manned with trained Ukrainian crews but they're currently stuck in Scotland not able to be used.
