I have never seen a 2002 TV recording in this high of quality before (excluding HDNet)

Not many people had D-VHS, they were very expensive. However, S-VHS players can play D-VHS tapes from what I know. Not regular VHS VCRs. - Taylor

@@TheAVTBArchives s-vhs players cannot play d-vhs recorded content, however d-vhs tapes themselves are just glorified s-vhs tapes so you can definitely use them for recording s-vhs and vhs content

Did you know that supposedly there are HDTV videos going back to at least 1983 if not farther. (However, HDTV systems and equipment until 1988 recorded and displayed in a 5:4 aspect ratio at 1035i as opposed to 16:9 at 1080i or even more modern 1080p.) The R&D for the technology goes back even farther beginning in the early-1970s.

It is seriously surreal to see TV footage from 2002 that is crystal clear. The early 2000's usually looks completely alien compared to today, but this makes me feel like then and now are truly connected.

This feels like something from the early-2010’s, if they kept D-VHS, I’d be perfectly happy because at least we won’t have to worry about the shitty DVD scratches and skips.

I wonder if FOX had a similar promo shown on its HD feed? ("You're Watching FOX in HDTV") with Calista Flockhart (season 2 of Ally McBeal was the first to be in widescreen but virtually few people had HDTV back when it was new), Frankie Muniz, Gillian Anderson and several others...

D-VHS tapes encoded in picture quality that rivaled Betacam SP and Digibeta.

If only this technology would have been compatible with regular VHS VCRs, and if it would have been brought on about 4-5 years prior...it could have changed the format for the better. DVDs were still 480p even though they were 'digital.' HD didn't make it to disc form until the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD wars in 2006-07. But unlike DVD, you still had to FF through previews, and there weren't 6 hours of special features included on movies. Only the SP/HS mode allowed HD at a usual 2 hour or 2:30 format, all others were SD. - Taylor

As of 11/8/23, I've seen all 264 episodes of Murder, She Wrote; plus all 4 Murder, She Wrote post-series telemovies. Murder, She Wrote: The Celtic Riddle aired that season on 5/9/03, which would become Angela Lansbury's final appearance as Jessica Fletcher.
