I love seeing clips like these that I have not seen before. My favorite shows were the Thanksgiving shows. I would be on my 4th plate of the day by the time 11:30 rolled around. I loved trying to guess which pies Mrs. Letterman would bake that year. Another holiday favorite is the Meatball / football/ xmas Tree throw and Jay Thomas' "Lone Ranger " story. Good Times , Believe me , "Citizen" 😀

And everyone else. Such a simple bit, but what they did with it, right from the start, was fantastic. We just had OG writer Stephen Winer on our show, who told the story about how one of his quick mail bag jokes, asking if the glass behind Dave was real, turned into a legacy bit of the glass breaking sound effect behind Dave every time he hurled something through it. Genius.

Leatherman is German related. Letterman is likely to come from "Leatherman". Many of our nanes were slightly changed generations ago. To easier "American" way as many people were unable to pronunce some names. At the ports of ships, incoming ships from Europe often had immigrants and the ports doctors or a docket agent, filling forms had to quickly process many people in a short time or even quarantine some people. As was not uncommon. Many names as mine, probably my father's side, was changed from Schmidt to Smith pr Mom's side was Schrothe to Schroder ? Amish farm families who are more religious with traditions and virtues (proving best life long results) often can be noted for authentic German names too. Traditions and virtues proving best life long results and disciplines helping grow more ways faster as we see various changes in China even shocking to wise Chinese elders. Fun facts.. Being good, honest and making good examples pays many ways. Recent years China and Singapore rank 1st and 2nd in P.I.S.A the world's most difficult students university entrance exam results and sadly our usa ranked 29th place. Mostly because Asia countries priority is family traditions and virtues proving best life long results and disciplines helping grow more ways faster. Tesla EVs (electric vehicles) Elon Musk Recently was slammed for telling truths to the public about average employees as executives share common knowledge. The average US workers want to work little as possible for higher pay and Chinese people are willing to burn the 3am oil to improve families lives in the near future. As a similar result. Teslas Shanghai gigafactory makes slightly better quality than the same model Teslas made in US and so Shanghai gigafactory is rewarded with another gigafactory extension to make much more EVs progress 😀 👏

Letterman could also be derived from a "man who holds letters", a "man of letters", or "letters carried by the mail MAN" ... in simplified engressh "Where is the Letter, man". Also like the Norwegian immigrant named "Sam Ting"

Also, Rick Stillavirginattheageoffortythree needs a snappier shorthand to make his name easier. A nickname of some kind maybe?
