This is the montage that CBS used for its coverage of the 1983 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament.
NOTE: From 1982-1986, CBS Sports used various artists for montages of their first four NCAA Tournaments, before "One Shining Moment" debuted in 1987.
Song: "All Right" by Christopher Cross.
I DO NOT OWN RIGHTS TO THIS VIDEO. Credits go to the NCAA, CBS Sports, Christopher Cross and Warner Bros./WMG.

Remember watching this montage as a kid after a very emotional NC State win. "All Right" conveys a sense of "we might be able to do this" which is a different feeling than "One Shining Moment." both are beautiful sentiments.

And sentimental, as many of those coaches have just died in the last 10 years - Dean Smith, Jerry Tarkanian, John Thompson, Guy Lewis. I’m from southern Indiana and thankful that Bob Knight and Denny Crum are still living. Man, college basketball was so special back then.

Yes, and I think they’re all here on RU-vid. Type in NCAA pre-One Shining Moment and the year, and it should come up. The one from 1986 is a very bad fit. I’m from southern Indiana and remember Louisville winning in 1986. When I looked it up a couple of years ago, I had no memory of seeing the montage at all. It’s very uninspiring. A year later when Indiana won the championship, they debuted “One Shining Moment,” and have kept it ever since. They found the perfect song for the event. It sure was special for two schools each about an hour from me to win the championship in consecutive years.

@@leczorn yeah this state is NASCAR and college basketball. Indiana has great basketball history. I just remember my talk talking about David Thompson, Fire & Ice, the Houston squad we somehow beat, Ralph Sampson terrorizing the league. Spud Webb winning the dunk contest, at what, 5' 8"? Won with a 360 dunk. Can't imagine how that got its 3" shorter than me and when I was a collegiate wrestler and in great shape, I could grab the rim with one hand, so I have no clue how he does it. I think this may have been a bigger upset than Villanova over Georgetown a couple of years later.
@leczorn
@leczorn 2 года назад
It’s debatable, but I heard that NC State was highly touted early in the season, then was slowed by injuries, but finally came together late in the regular season. Nevertheless, bearing a Houston team with two hall of famers, Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler, was a phenomenal achievement. As for Villanova two years later, they just seemed to matchup very well with Georgetown. The two teams played twice in the regular season and Georgetown won narrowly both times - by seven at home and by two in overtime at Villanova. The Wildcats were pesky and slowed down the games, enabling them to stay close. The shot clock was instated the next season, and with it, Villanova likely would not have won the championship game. Their defenders point out that only twice did they have the ball on offense for more than 45 seconds - the original length of the shot clock - without shooting, but with a shot clock, Georgetown wouldn’t known when Villanova had to shoot and would’ve had a better chance of stopping it. And remember that Villanova sent 22-28 from the field - 78%. That’s about a one in five hundred thing. And it says a lot that after shooting so well, they still only won by two points!
@johnhanka6220
