On July 7, 1947, CBS Radio broadcast the first episode of "CBS Is There." Hosted by John Daly, the premise was that CBS News covered live important moments in history. The first episode was titled, "The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln."
The program's name was soon changed to "You Are There."
On June 5, 1949, "You Are There" aired a sequel episode titled, "The Capture of John Wilkes Booth." This episode was hosted by Don Hollenbeck.
Both recordings are from a digitization of a cassette in my personal collection.
The image is of the painting "Lincoln Borne By Loving Hands" by artist Carl Bersch. More about the painting and its restoration on the Smithsonian Magazine web site at www.smithsonia....
