The Reserve Bank's Prudential Authority has given CBZ Holdings, Zimbabwe's largest bank, permission to establish a presence in the country.
Reserve Bank Deputy Governor, and CEO of the Prudential Authority, Fundi Tshazibana, confirmed that authority has been given in line with the provisions of section 30 of the Banks Act.
The representative office in South Africa will not be allowed to conduct banking business in South Africa itself.
South African banking regulations allow a foreign bank's representative office to promote and assist the foreign bank's activities.
But these banks may not accept deposits, solicit deposits or advertise deposits.
