樂曲解說/program note:
鄭芝龍為明末時,中國東南海域最強大的海上勢力。他在多國角力的情況下展露頭角,不僅精通各國語言,在軍事、商業版圖上都有相當的成就,全盛時期幾乎壟斷了當地海上勢力,成為海上霸主。樂曲始於聖歌式音樂,旋律從靜謐的氛圍堆疊,展開雄偉的銅管主題,彷彿年少的鄭芝龍於祝禱時展現堅定的意志。C段進入快板樂段,象徵大航海時代的開啟,銅管與打擊樂器演奏出緊張的氣氛,搭配交錯的3/4拍與2/4拍,如同鄭氏處於錯綜複雜的文化中心,思考如何在局勢的競合斡旋當中走出自己的路。最後他成功擊敗勁敵,取得強權成為海上霸主。結束一連串緊湊節拍後,樂曲進入慢板,K段以長笛與薩克斯風獨奏展開鄭芝龍的獨白,綿延的風鈴聲呼應首段主題,如在暗夜裡憶起初心,回溯自身文化根源。在自我思考之後,N段反覆的樂句帶出鄭氏再次被喚醒的雄心壯志,末段回到3/4拍與2/4拍交叉的樂段,再次進入高潮,全曲在戲劇化、漸慢的旋律中落幕。
Zheng Zhilong was the most powerful maritime force at the southeastern waters of China in the late Ming Dynasty. He showed off in the situation of multi-country wrestling, not only proficient in various languages, but also had achievements in military and commercial territory. In his heyday, he almost monopolized the local maritime power and became an overload of the sea.
The music begins with hymn-style music, and the melody builds up from the quiet atmosphere to a majestic brass theme, just as young Zheng Zhilong shows a strong motivation while praying. When the C section enters the allegro, symbolizing the opening of The Age of Navigation. Brass and percussions create tense atmosphere with staggered 3/4 and 2/4, as if Zheng’s is thinking about how to figure out his own way when he is in the co-opetition and mediation. Finally, he defeats the rival. After a series of the rhythmic compactness, the music enters the adagio. The K section begins Zheng Zhilong’s monologue with the flute and saxophone solos. The continuous wind chimes response the first section, just as recalling the original intention and going back to the roots of his own culture at night. After self-contemplation, the repeated phrases of N section awakened Zheng’s ambition again. The last section returned to the section where 3/4 and 2/4 time crossed and entered a climax again. The whole piece ended in the melody which is dramatic and slowing down.
